It did. Granted, no one is the arena had any idea who they picked. - jmatchett383
I knew who his Dad was and liked his Dad's game when in NHL. Also knew he was playing in a grown man league in Europe with his Dad before being drafted.
Yeah, Ive read similar studies and reports over the years but the table/chart in this one is pretty cool. Easy to see. - MattStrat
I prefer the one that assigns a numerical value to each individual pick that shows that a bunch of 3rd round picks are more valuable than a 1st rounder.

When I got married, the guy who was going to be the DJ at our wedding (before suffering a nervous breakdown) owned Sami's PS3. He DJ'ed some charity event for the Flyers and Sami and ended up being friends with him, and Sami gave him his PS3 when he went back to Finland.
Kasperi, as a kid, would create his player and would play 2-player with his dad. It's pretty cool that, to him, it was just him and his dad, not him and Sami Kapanen the hockey player.

Edit: This table needs some updating. - jmatchett383
If someone could create a database where you could look up any trade and compare the production of all the components in trade for each side in a time line, say like (2, 5 or 10 years since trade) ...I think that would be f'n awesome.
There is a chance I have a heavily cupped down post mocking that exact mindset. - Guile
DK sucks. He has a good writing voice but his points are almost always stupid and involve some hill he’s currently dying on. He’s apparently a bad guy too.

Non-Pens related, but has anyone else notice STL? The Central division has really flipped. - Rinosaur
Things are even tighter over in the west. Last in the conference is only 8 points out of playoff spot.
I really think with the expansion draft making a very good solid team plus another year of salary cap that the league is even higher in parity again this season. Probably the tightest standings Ive ever seen with only about 25 games left for most teams.

Steve Eminger was drafted 12th overall.
Paul Holmgren traded the #21 overall pick in 2008 (used on John Carlson) for him.
Therefore, the 21st overall pick is better than the 12th overall pick.

I like his other writers on the site. They do not give reacharounds to Johnson every chance they get.
But to me that says it's an implied rule in those press conferences that if you bash that signing you wont get called on or something.

He used to be my favorite sports writer.....not any longer. He'll ride those opinions into the ground when he's demonstrably wrong. It's embarrassing.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. I mean top three in the Pacific are probably set and top two in the Central, but the rest are a free for fall. Colorado's fall from grace is pretty crazy.

Yeah I met Sami a few times when I was a young lad at Carolina's training camp. Always seemed like a cool dude.

He was always very friendly, very fan-oriented. I think he fully realized how lucky he was to be playing in the NHL and never took it for granted, which drove him to play every shift like it was his last. The hit he took from Darcy Tucker in OT of the 2004 ECQF, and his struggle to get back to the bench is embedded in my mind. Sorry for the Flyers clip, but you've gotta watch this...hardest hit I've ever seen:

I have seen that clip thousands of times but I think Campbell vs Umberger was a harder hit
Vic confirmed as a bandwagoner. My column: - Feds91Stammer
Hahaha
But seriously, I grew up in SC, so my fandom beyond catching a random Penguins game here and there on NBC coincided with the advent of ilegal streaming.

What part of SC? The fiance and I are planning on moving to Greenville in June.

First of all, congrats. Second of all, Greenville (frank)ing rocks but that’s way upstate. I grew up in a small coastal town called Pawleys Island. It’s the midway point between Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Hour souch of Myrtle and an hour and twenty north of Chucktown.
Greenville is one of the four pockets of civilization in South Carolina. The others being the Grand Strand (where I’m from), Charleston, and Hilton Head. The entire central part of the state is completely worthless.

Yeah we really enjoy Greenville and we are done with the Florida weather.

Will never understand people who get tired of 80 degree weather, but I guess that's the Puerto Rican in me. I'll take a 90 degree day over a 40 degree day any day of the week.
Anyways, when you guys take a vacation to the coast, I strongly suggest staying away from Myrtle Beach. That place blows.
