None of the owners want it. It's in their best interest not to do it. Maybe a rogue owner or a GM with a chip on his shoulder tries one, but it risks alienating a franchise. People talked about AZ sheeting Matthews, but considering AZ is on Maple Leaf welfare, that was neever going to happen. If we get 1 attempt, it wouldn't surprise me, but like I said, it's been 11 years since a successful one. - jcragcrumple

lol...Point, Johnson, Palat, Coyle. Montour….offer sheets...
LOL!!!!
Deadline Day: "The Buffalo Sabres have traded Nathan Bowl-u to Las Vegas for a conditional 5th Round pick and have promoted Scott Wilson to their NHL club"
moves... - RippedFuel
I agree with this post. I see Bowl-U as the only trade happening. My prediction - Calgary for the 5th you mention above. |

Here's what the Sabres can actually do, theoretically because offer sheets are unicorns. These are 2018 numbers cause lazy.
Offer:
$1,339,575 or less (no comp)
$1,339,576 to $2,029,659 (3rd) - Sheary must not hit 20g or 40 points and Hunwick must not be traded
$4,059,323 to $6,088,980 (1st & 3rd) - Same as above
Over $10,148,302 (4 1sts) - Anyone pay the next 4 year's 1st round picks for Brayden Point or Sebastian Aho? Cause that's the only offer sheet that, were they to actually exist, have a remote chance of actually completing - TheSabresTaco
I would for Aho first, then Rantanen, then Point, then Marner. |

I would trade for Tyler Johnson. He's extremely versatile, can win draws and can play anywhere in the top 9.
At 5M, he's a steal. - TheSabresTaco
Is he getting back to that 2014-2015 season anytime soon? If not, no thank you. |

Problem is, no one's giving up 4 first round picks for an RFA. Not even Kucherov. For everything else, the GM will likely have no problem matching, and all you did was irritate that GM. Either that, or GMs would rather put a package together than use their 1sts. The opposing GM isn't going to let a guy go over a measly 3rd or 2nd rounder. - TheSabresTaco
It's complicated, but possible to win a OS.
A scenario would be for a team to target a team like Winnipeg that has a) tight cap issues and b) multiple RFAs.
Yoy would need to target 2 players and be fine with getting either of them. The strategy would be to target Player 1 with an aggressive offer...if the other team matches, then target player 2 with another aggressive offer that puts that team over the cap by more than the allowable overage.
Admitedly very, very hard to do no doubt. |

We need to make some kind of move before the deadline because of Nelson. Beau would make sense.

LeBrun was reporting it to be a real possibility that Chiarelli was going to offer sheet Dougie Hamilton when he was still in Boston. Just one example I can think of. - TheSabresTaco
Isn't the threat of an offer sheet from multiple teams what precipitated Hamilton getting traded to Calgary? |

It sadly seems like the first move will be to send Pilut to Rochester. |

if the sabres were ever gonna do it, the time is now
3 first round picks this year
then go 4 years w/o first round picks to have another all star player on this roster for 7 years
I would rather have kucherov for 7 years then girgens, armia, pysyk and nylander for too long |

If they send him down for a couple days, just because of the deadline, no big deal. Better if they just get that ball rolling a little early and deal someone.

It’s also in the owners interest to not keep handing out ridiculous UFA contracts that overpay guys every single season...
but they can’t help themselves
It might not happen this season,
but it seems like it’s coming

Again...
why would they move guys like Johnson (or Miller) when they could just ship out Palat or Kilorn instead? - jdfitz77
I see them letting the following walk
Strahlman $4.7m
Coburn $3.7m
.
ELC replacements
-Eric Cernac
-Cal Foote
Maybe Girardi $3.0m ... they may try to retain him for another year
Buyout Callahan sves $3.3m in '19-20.
- Joseph is his "replacement" on the roster
They have moves they can make...
It get tougher, alot tougher in the ne t couple years for sure. |

I’d like the idea of an offersheet as well. |
