He can't sign the deal until the 25th though. Botterill keeps things very quiet - jcragcrumple
I would imagine he'd let us know if Skinner signs. Why would he wait for the 27th if he was open to signing here? They've had 8 months to hash this out. |

Yeah, next year. I thought Eberle and Stone had the same end-point on their deals. So Stone, Duchene, Staal, Zuccarello, Simmonds, Eberle. There are options to spend money. |

There could definitely be reasons why he wouldn't and the Sabres wouldn't want an 8 year deal. He'd have a shot at one more solid contract if he did a five year deal. - TheSabresTaco
Heck, I don't want an 8 year deal for him. Still, if he isn't signed a day after the TDL ends (at a time when he can be signed for 8), I'll be pretty confident to say he's walking. Given the procrastination, I think it's real possibility now.
Why wait if you are the Sabres? If no good excuse, that means Skinner wants more than they're willing to give and he's playing out his last season with us. |

They probably haven't come to an agreement in total yet. But I'm confident that an 8-year deal will be signed on TDL day, the day he's able to sign that deal. |

The Coyotes active roster has 4 forwards, 2 defensemen and 0 goalies that were drafted by Arizona. Clayton Keller is the only player to exceed 30 points off of that list, and him and OEL are the only two to exceed 20 points.
This team isn't even in last place. |

There is no possible way a reasonable conclusion can be drawn from that information. It's all, 100%, speculative.
Sometimes contract language needs to be negotiated. For all we know, Skinner could have agreed to basic money and terms a month ago. Drawing up contracts for elite players takes a lot of time. Eichel took 3 months. Matthews took over 7 months. |

Malkin just became available on July 1. Lock him up. Botts connection.

I thought we couldn't offer the 8-years until after the TDL? Maybe they have an 8-year deal in place and are just waiting to announce it after the TDL? |

Why do people even theorize this to be possible.

Chances are nil he even leaves the Sharks let alone joins the Sabres, but he could be our Marleau, and it'd be awesome. |

That's fair. It isn't set and stone, just trying to read how things are playing out is all. I think Botts has to be doing everything he can to get that deal done, if Skinner walks, regardless of what we paid to acquire him, it will be reported as a major misstep. |

It's all speculation. I can only go off of what I see. I see we still haven't signed him. We have about 2 weeks before Skinner will be unsigned AND have the opportunity to sign for 8 years. If he still isn't at that point, I'll still speculate that he is on the way out. Doesn't mean I'm right or wrong, but I think things are heading that way fast.
I will wait for the 27th to say "eek eek" but there's singular eek currently. |

No reason to not be a little nervous. There hasn't even been a whisper about either party being discontent. The opposite is true with Ottawa's UFAs, and Kane last year. Even in December, you pretty much knew he was getting traded. All signs, all media, even his own words told you pretty plainly that he'd be traded. I don't see any of that with Skinner. Or JS53 as laff fans would probably say. |

I agree.
Botts is gonna take a beating if skinner goes to free agency July 1st
Skinners camp may have been upfront,
Jeff would like to test free agency
Jbotts may have hoped to convince him with winning and playing with eichel. |

Where are you getting this info that they're procrastinating? No one said that.
They could have an entire framework written, a handshake deal in place, but are waiting until the 8th year can be added. |
