I think I'm generally agreeing with you on the player here. I have concerns for sure. The 8 years is what bothers me more than the $. If he hits 40 and goes to UFA, he'll get more than 8.5, if he wants it.
I'm just trying to put myself in JB's shoes. - Lunaion
I getcha. I've always believed term is more critical than dollars. He's going to hit 40 that's for sure. If he gets more than 8.5 over 7 years I hope it isn't from us. Forget 8 years, jesus. Scary |

I'm not sure it's possible to work that hard everywhere on the ice and have enough left to be as productive as he is offensively, just from a cardiovascular standpoint. - kingcong39
If he could put in an Eichel-like level of effort on defense, it would be a huge improvement.

I've come to terms with the idea that JB really has no choice and it's not going to be team-friendly.

Why the hell does a sniper 1st line winger need to play defense and why is that a knock on him
You pay him to score goals
Not everyone has to be a 2-way forward FFS. |

It's not just defense. The play dies on his stick a lot. He is not a good passer. If he gets the puck away from the goal I'm usually expecting the play to come back in our end. I'm not hating him it's just the truth. He is extremely one dimensional. It happens to be a very important dimension. |

I don't think I've even seen anyone work harder in the ozone, but it just makes it painfully obvious that he's conserving his energy everywhere else. - Lunaion

He will still put in 30+ a year for the next 5+ years if he's Jack's LW and that's literally what you would be paying him to do.
He is horrible at passing though but his play in the defensive zone isn't as bad as people make it out to be. He just doesn't go down below the slot in his own zone, and he shouldn't. That's literally what a Center is supposed to do and lo and behold, our #1 center rarely goes into the corners on either end of the rink.
Jack is terrible on defense yet no one seems to point it out. Yeah he back-checks, but he's useless in his own zone most of the time. |

Maxim Afinogenov was like a poor-man's Bure. Still made him one of the most exciting players to ever put on a Sabres uniform.
No one was happier when they scored a goal than Maxi-Poo. |

I think his shot was better than Ovechkin's. I remember him beating Hasek more than once from the blue line with no screen, just he and Hasek, and he just wired it by him. |

In that Bure was Bezos and Afinogenov was a dude who makes $40K a year, sure. Maybe, the only area Max could match him was straight line speed, maybe. |

I was going to do the sentence before that too, but I think it would've been too long. It was time to retire the financial advice. Never did end up finding a good "fiscalist" though. |

Trade two late 1sts a low level prospect like Thompson and two cap dumps for
Orielly
Kane
Two great players this year who will solidify our second line and help our defense and PP.
Oh wait no GM would take that weak haul for two all star players - Fattony1187

Dude you can't be serious?
-defence (THE PLAYERS) passes it to the other team
-they (THE PLAYERS) are soft
-they (THE PLAYERS) run around in their own end
-players (THE PLAYERS) disappear for long stretches
-they (THE PLAYERS) give up early goals
-they (THE PLAYERS)give up quick goals after scoring
I could go on....
The coach is a dumpster fire. - sabresfan69

I find it interesting that so many on here are now in favor of the Sabres trading away Skinner.... A team that is totally lost on defense but still god awful in scoring goals and you want to ditch a 50 goal scorer because he is not good defensively? He is paid to score goals period. That is the problem with this team... they trade away a semi pure gem because it is not a pure gem..... makes no sense. Besides if you are trading away for one dimension play then you look no further than Dahlin. Great offensively but this kid has sucked it up in his own end. we could name several other players and many who suck at both ends of the ice..... let's start with that huge group first eh? |

Sorry but I really disagree with you assessment of Dahlin. Has he has some bone head moments, sure. Has he looked pretty damn good for an 18 yr old rookie, damn straight.
I do agree with why we are in this mess though, trading Kane and ROR where both total losses thus far.... thatβs a lot of wishful thinking that either mid/low first round pick will be anything other than another guy. If that turns out to be true both are total failures.
Number one on the off season list is get a real nhl coach
Hot seat- botts has been very unimpressive thus far. He has one win so far, skinner ( but if we donβt sign him and canβt trade him thatβs another total failure) everything else has been meh... |

Why are we talking about Duchene on this team? The money he is going to get.. i don't get why people are obsessed with him. He is a 50-55 point guy.. having a career year shooting 21%. I think people just like his name? Or think he has been better than he has? I do not get why people talk about him at 9-10 million. Even 8! 2 years over 60 points. |

Because heβs a f/a and he would help this train wreak... I like him but no way in hell for 9 or 10.

You think he would? I think he would be what Okposo is now but in year one. He has Samson production but is going to get 8-10 million... imagine that? |

yes, I do think he would help, he might be Sam production but itβs at center.... we could use a lot more players that produce like Sam.
I donβt think he is okposo at all, that was a horrible signing from the get go, it was a panic move because they lost out on stamkos.
That being said iβm Not giving him anything above 8 and iβm Not going long term, long term is only given to franchise players in my nhl.

We should all just give up with the trade ideas, free agent signings, etc ... I don't think we'll ever be good again. In fact, we should all just stop posting. Waste of time.
