Let’s just say you’re right... that picking a BETTER player at 10 vs 16 has a 5% better chance
Isn’t that ignoring that a really good player could still be picked at 16???
It doesn’t mean the guy picked at 10 will be Mitts & the guy picked at 16 will be Girgs
It could just as easily (and much more likely) be a situation where the guy picked 10th is “Mitts” & the guy picked 16th is “Chychrun” - jdfitz77
What is the value if the 10th won one of the top 3 picks in the lottery?
The 16th does not qualify for that opportunity. |

Yes picking somewhere in the 10-14 range, and saving ourselves from national humiliation. Even if I had rose colour glasses on the Sabres have to win a minimum of 15 of their last 25 games with loser points involved to even have a chance. And before you say “well it’s easy to root for them to lose now” I’ve been on the tank train and debating you on this issue for over a month now. Picking in the 10-14 range is what’s realistic and we are both arguing on two opposite ends of the spectrum that are both likely to not happen. - Pegullaville
If we were looking at a top3 pick,
then I’d be with you
Instead...
I’ll just continue to cheer for my team to WIN
Enjoy hoping we lose
Idk why you’d even bother to watch?

Neither was correct as Pettersson still is one point behind Sprong comparing their respective production since the trade.
That was the point, or are you moving the goal posts? - kingcong39
One is a depth defenseman and one is a top 6 forward. Keeping the goal posts intact. You took the time to do the research, kudos to you. I still think the depth d-man having one less points as Sprong is more impressive in the grand scheme of things. |

Agree a bit, but one is on a team that scores consistently and another is on an absolute trainwreck of a team. That matters when doing a comparison. |

I think they got a refund for $179 million making their effective tax rate a -1%...didn't pay any taxes the year before either...GE didnt' pay any taxes either and I remember some supposed rich real estate guy during the election proudly stating that he didn't pay taxes either - Michael Pachla

I am a realist
I have watched Buffalo sports for 40 years
I know when they are special and when they are not
I moved to Florida 24 years ago, adopted Tampa as my second favorite team
Tampa is by far the best team in the NHL and a top 10 addition for the sabres is one of the things they need to compete with Tampa for the next 10 years
They are not competing with them this year
Not sure how some of you can't see this - homiedclown
Hope and passion keep buffalo fans loyal.
I agree with your post.
A small win streak would be nice though |

So instead of picking Allen 8th you were happy laying an egg against the Jags and then having
To trade Cordy Glenn and do all of the maneuvering it took to get into the top 10 to draft him ? Interesting. How did the playoff experience work out for the Bills this year ?
How are the Devils and Avs doing this year ? - Pegullaville
The draught needed to end at all costs.
17 years
If it cost us cordy Glenn.
All day every day.
It also showcased tyrod for the cleve 3rd rounder.
And drove home the idea that a franchise QB is neccessary and ty wasnt it. |

Yes but Sprong was acquired to be a difference maker and “score consistently”. I’m not saying what he’s doing this year is terrible. I’m sure he’s doing just fine. Pettersson has been an important piece on the blue line in that trade as well even if we disregard points. I’m sure it worked out for both teams. Just thought that the fact they had similar point totals giving their positions was interesting. |

Well i guess you should’ve saved your $$$ since “you’ve been on the tank train for over a month now”
Phil/Botts aren’t “tanking”
You’re just cheering for us to lose

Tanking would have gotten the QB, Glenn would have kept him from getting hurt, along with the picks you could have kept could have drafted more O-Line help or a WR for him to throw the ball too. The cap space and draft picks you have this offseason would further help the fact. You’d be ending the drought this year or next year anyways and have a better team around him. Only sacrifice would have been playing one less game. |

Draft lottery results since the change where there is a lottery for each of the top 3 picks:
2016 - 1st Toronto (1), 2nd Winnipeg (6), 3rd Columbus (4)
2017 - 1st New Jersey (5), 2nd Flyers (13), 3rd Dallas (8)
2018 - 1st Buffalo (1), 2nd Carolina (11), 3rd Montreal (4)
It's too soon to have a large data sample, but sure seems like it's a possibility based on the past, so far. |

glenn was oft-injured, expensive and not in their future plans...this past season was all about eating dead cap money so they could move forward this year with a ton of cap space...
i'd say mission accomplished |
