This Tanner guy is unreal. I had actually been thinking about this fool this week, wondering if he had even considered writing something to counter the garbage he wrote earlier this year about the Isles. Ironically, today he instead decided to double down on his insults of the Islanders. Almost 75% of the way through the season, instead of humbling himself and giving credit to a team in first place in its division, second in conference and 4th in the entire NHL, he would rather again talk about how lucky they are, how they are one of the least talented teams in the league and insist that it is still not sustainable, if not just a flat out one year wonder. This guy is such an idiot it is unreal.
He clearly does not watch the games based on what he writes and knows little to nothing about the team. It is not just goaltending, it is solid defense, timely scoring and a balanced offense from top to bottom, including a fourth line center who is about to have a 20 goal season.
But in the end I dont even know why I waste my time with a response like this because Tanner shows what a fraud he is when he states "they could even win a cup, other undeserving teams have done it before for one year." So basically the Isles could win the cup this year and he will still say it is not deserved and then repeat the whole cycle next year if the Isles are good again by saying "there have even been some team who have been lucky for _____ (fill in the blank) years in a row."

My point was that luck can last for a pretty long time. Does anyone dispute that the 2006 Hurricanes were not a power house?

Again, hope the Islanders keep it up, not my intention to rile everyone up, I just don't think there's any reason to believe this is real.

Who cares they won the cup James and that's the whole point isn't it or is it every teams goal to gain your approval?

I think teams get lucky for a run of games. We’re a week away from the trade deadline and the isles are first in the metro and third in the league overall. It’s not luck at this point. Where you’re failing here is your lack of importance being places on Barry Trotz. The same guy who took a basically perennial negative plus/minus Ovechkin and made him a cup winner. It’s that same theory that took your non powerhouse 2006 Canes to the finals and win with Laviolette. For the record, Lehner AND Greiss are factors, but wasn’t that the plan for a team who gave up the most goals in the league last year?? What you’re seeing now is this team under this regime is executing said plan.....that’s not luck, that’s attention to detail.

Side note : i don’t care for the back and forth non sense on here, but throwing out the cum laude thing on here is about as cool as aids...

If you watched the games you would realize that it has been a total team commitment to be more responsible on defense. I don't care what analytics say because the games are played on ice not paper. You are arguing with lifetime hockey people, And telling people how educated you are just comes off as arrogant. Much like you constantly taking on the internet.

Since this was a bit more reasonable response than I expected, I will reply once more. I do not believe there is a single Islanders fan out there referring to the team as a "powerhouse." If there is, feel free to debate that person as hard as you want. But the point is this team was left for dead by every single expert out there, EVERY SINGLE ONE. Has there been a few lucky games here and there, of course, but that is the case with every team. This is not luck, this is a good team. You make it sound like this is the Jacques Lemaire Devils that did nothing but sit back and trap. This is an exciting hard forechecking team that now suddenly (led by a real coach for the first time in years) knows how to play in the defensive zone. Are there superstars all over the lineup like Tampa Bay? No. But if you think this is a talentless team, then you really do not watch them play.
They deserve credit. And if they win the division, or somehow the conference or even the cup, nobody can take that away from them. But unless they sweep through the playoffs losing like 4 games the whole way, I do not see anybody calling them a powerhouse. But an accomplishment is an accomplishment regardless of how it happens.

Wow! The Islander fans in here are sensitive. If you don’t agree with Tanner, stop reading him. Quit your crying and enjoy the season.

Biggest joy will being at the game against Toronto 2/28 on Long Island and letting “pajama boy” know what a snake he really is 😂

So if people have a different opinion they are crying? I believe it's arrogance that is problem not the nonsensical ramblings of Professor Tanner that people are calling him out about.

Don’t read him then! He is doing his job. He says stuff people disagree with and gets hits. No one makes you read it. Why would you possibly care what anyone on this website writes?

Quite possibly the most idiotic blog ever. So you're saying the Islanders success is no more than incredible amounts of luck? You write for maybe the sh1ttiest franchise in sports and maybe you're just bitter. But then again, we can't expect anyone from a goddamn dessert to know the first thing about hockey. Keep your clueless opinions to yourself and enjoy the Islanders success. Because lord knows when the Arizona Coyotes will ever win. Or should we say, the future Quebec Nordiques

It is entertaining and he's much better than he used to be with the insanity. That cum laude thing was absurd, but I have to believe he was saying it jokingly. Even still, many people graduate on the Dean's list with a GPA of 10.0 or higher.. It ain't no thing.(I'm one of them and i say poop like it ain't no thing)

11 days. Should be the most uncomfortable day of that snake Tavares' life. And I highly recommend to Leafs nation to stay out of our building that night

It's just disrespectful. But if the blog came out of Canada, Boston Area, Minnesota or a hockey hot bed, it might mean something. But it's an Arizona Coyote blogger spewing venom. Might as well be a woman but my girlfriend has forgotten more about hockey than some analytical schmuck from Yuma
