What if the Jets had never traded away their first round pick to Vegas to protect Enstrom? We only got 43 games and 1 goal out of him for that price. The Jets most certainly would have drafted Nick Suzuki. He is a solid prospect at Center. Instead we moved back and drafted Vesalainen.
Suzuki got Vegas Pacioretty. Perhaps he could have been enough to get Stone? - TheUltimateJet
A: you’re forgetting the additional 3rd rounder in there, and that it was also in exchange for not taking Dano
B: we also received probably the best defensive defenceman in the NHL for 43 games as a result
C: Vesalainen is likely better than Suzuki
D: we can already make a trade for Stone, without putting Ves or Niku on the table at all |
|
|
|
The fact that Niku is possibly the only D in the system comfortable playing both sides should make him untradeable.
As for talk if Seattle expansion. We have no issues once so ever. Vesalainen not playing this year will make him ineligible for Seattle and that’s huge.
If lineup stays the same.....
Shief
Wheels
Connor
Ros
Lowry
Laine
(And one more, dealers choice)
Trouba
Morrisey
Niku
( buff will be a pending UFA, so if we want to keep him we can sign him after the expansion draft)
Perreault will also be a pending UFA, so that only leaves little to either be protected or to let Seattle take. We have no problems really - Ross77
We have to protect Little NMC. So with Ehlers that makes 8 forwards on your list...... |

I had my eye on Valimaki that draft year. Picked at #16 by the Flames. Left hand defense, made the team this year (joining the Flames already deep defense) as a 20 yo (currently out with injury). We could have had a long term solution to replacing Toby playing already this season. |

DeBrincat has two goals tonite (31 on the year) against Ottawa.
Edit: He has three tonite now, 32 for the season.
Dorion is playing the game, waiting it out, playing his top three UFA's against Chicago. - CharlieDog
One can only guess Charlie. They needed a defenseman and after a sudden run, it seemed Stanley was the only one left on their list. They had him ranked 12th on their list. So they might have got Stanley still at 22 and Debrincat. Who knows.

Nice catch. So we could end up losing Roslovic anyways and if Stone was on our roster then possibly a bigger name.

That’s your argument? “Bergeron buddy” ??
Nice one. - Jordo
What (frank)ing argument do I need to make? Have you ever seen his resume? His contemporaries? His highlight reel? Him playing at all? |

Little will be handed the ole “waive for Seattle, or we’ll buy you out” card |

Actually Little's contract becomes a NTC (Not a NMC) before the expansion draft - so he won't have to be protected at that time. Thank God for that!
It explains his contract on CapFriendly |

I think he does have to be protected because it's a modified no trade, if wikipedia's list of 2017 rules is correct:
Players whose NMCs had limited no trade clauses had to still be protected, and any players with NMCs were able to waive the clause and become eligible for the expansion draft. |

Little will not have a no move at the time of expansion, it will be a no trade by then and we dont have to protect no trade guys |

I guess we have to wait and see, I dont remember anyone with a NTC having to be protected? Pretty sure I’ve read a few articles from jets writters looking ahead and they thought he didn’t have to be protected but who knows? |

Yes that's the way I understand it. Little's NMC is finished after 2020 season, making him a player with a limited NTC - meaning he doesn't have to be protected.
Anyways, this is the way i understand it and the way it worked last time - and was confirmed to be by someone in Jets land who I trust knows.
That's the good news - now the trade(s)! Better news! |

Well if you want to pay him 8 million/year as per TSN, sure lets keep the most over-hyped/overrated d-man in Jets history. |

I never said he won’t be traded at some point but it won’t be now. Trading Trouba and replacing him ceci right now guarantees us no cup and a first round knockout, so thanks for that |

Ceci is better than Kempny and Hainsey. Both of those guys were first pairing defensemen on Stanley Cup Championship teams. |

Hard to trade Trouba in season, we need him for the playoffs and he can be dealt in summer.

No he’s not. And who cares where they were on cup winning teams that had players named Crosby, malkin, ovechkin, ect!! You are making points in a broken, cracked glass, holds no water!!!! |

That might be the piece that makes the deal happen ! Ottawa might need a new GM and why not a guy that knows more about hockey than anyone else ? |

Cause Trouba and his 3 points in the playoffs really put us over the top last year. |

You're trading him to the wrong team. Please trade him to Tampa or Nashville. He'll have destroyed the whole franchise before we even reach the playoffs.
First, he'll trade Stamkos for Petan, then Dano for Kucherov, Trouba for Hedman, Forsberg for Perreault. Chariot for Josi...and call up Enstrom from Swedish B, and Postma from the KHL |
