Someone over on reddit pointed out that his 40 points this year would make him the highest point total on AZ right now. Between obtaining Strome (a win-win trade, I think) and Caggiula-for-Manning, StanBo may have bought himself some time.

It’s not where you draft but how you draft and how you manage those assets once you have them. A well-run organization — scouting, development, cap management, strength/conditioning, asset management and game management — that consistently drafts in the 20-31 range in the first will consistently outplay a team continually drafting top 5 if that top 5 drafting team isn’t well run.

Exactly. Look at Tampa. I know this group hasn't won a cup but they draft well in the lower rounds. Braden point was a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Palat was a 7th rounder. Many more good players on that team that are 2nd rounder or lower. Let me rephrase many impact players drafted outside the first round.
