So he's Shaw 2.0? Worked out pretty well in 2015. - Dieselhead
Kassian once in his career has had over 10 goals (14), Shaw is a much better offensive player, why trade for Kassian, if you need that type of player just bring up Martinsen.

From a glance, Kassian has better skills than Martinsen but far less than Shaw. Martinsen can't receive a pass if it meant saving his life. That said, I'd definitely like to get some grit like him if it didn't mean losing too much.

If all it would cost to get Kassian is a 3rd and Sikura, I'd do it. |

Not to mention using a single post-game quote that was said in English for a Russian player that barely speaks 50 words in the entire English language...it's nonsense. There is a very real prejudice/stereotyping against Russian players as soft, lazy, and "don't care about the Stanley Cup". - EnzoD
Not being contentious here, but who outside Cherry and his ilk harbors such viewpoints? Sounds a bit overstated, at least on its face.

You already have a Kassian on the team if he plays consistently (which is a knock on Kassian also) in Hayden

Oh hell no ,Respectfully,Kassian is a much tougher player. Martinson forget it, Powderpuff in disguise, all show and no go. I don’t think he’s had one scrap. In the time he was up . There was a couple of times earlier this he should’ve came to a team mates aide and basically did nothing. There was one incident in particular and it drew the ire of the coaches. I think he got benched for the next game. |

And how many fights occur during the playoffs? I think Shaw had one in the second cup run, but none in the 2015 cup run. Even Ryan Reaves has only had one playoff fight in his career.

What exactly has McDonagh done to "prove himself right about being a playoff team"?? Bowman made some good LONG TERM hockey trades in acquiring Strome and Caggiulla who are both signed for 2 years on team friendly contracts. It turns out the Hawks are not one of the 5 worst teams in the NHL, are playing extremely high scoring and entertaining hockey every night, and are ONE POINT from 8th in the West and playoff birth. Will they win in the first round? HIGHLY unlikely. What exactly would you have done differently? You'd rather watch the Hawks play as they did in November-December just to draft a MAYBE impact player in this draft that lacks a McDavid/Matthews type talent??
I don't understand the people who are still on the tank train. IF, the Hawks start losing in bunches and they are close to top overall pick in March, I may get back onboard the tank train. But, as it stands today, they are a playoff bubble team in the very weak Western Conference. And all the teams at the top of the conference are serial chokers when it comes to the playoffs, so anything can happen, even if it is a prayer.
Hawks SHOULD get Crawford back soon and he is very likely a big upgrade over Ward/Delia. - EnzoD
if craw is healthy and in game shape...despite the horrible defense he did not look like himself the 3-4 weeks he played...
the hawks at least in terms of key metrics are not playing all that much better ...certianly not defensively when they were losing...
the big difference is the puck is going in and the top 4-5 plus gus are on fire...still no secondary scoring: kruger, sikura, hayden, kunitz, arte, perlini...come on
as you stay a crappy WC this year and increased scoring around the league and fans fueled by MCD BS are getting taken in by this...
this is not a team made to compete and win in the playoffs

Or signing Panarin completely unnecessary. The Hawks have a dumpster fire defense and hopes and dreams that prospects will save the day are fools gold. Yes one or two may work out, some may not and the ones that do work out may not for 3 years. Panarin is NOT coming back to Chicago, period because he is not needed. Many more needs than a scoring winger. He seems like a good kid and a great player, but let someone else sign him for 10 million a year. - kwolf68
agree...another 10 mildo for 7 - 8 years; terrible allocation of cap $$'s and then you cat and strome need to be extended this summer
they 2-3 solid 3-6 mildo per players not another scorer/sniper for 10 mil

I've wondered the same - would be nice if he's capable to handle it.

Pass, Kassian doesn't make the team better. That's not saying Sikura is NHL ready, but Kassian isn't worth giving up on him. |

This is probably the biggest reason - that and creating too many moving parts as an accommodation to fit someone it - the question becomes is it a team game, and what have you done to the team?
It made more sense if the team was floundering like it was when it looked like they would never win a game again ...
I guess the real answer is - how does Colliton see his team's needs as? Give the man the parts he is looking for --- he looks like he is fully capable of building. He definitely revived a team that 12 months ago could barely buy a goal at some times and was seriously moribund --- ok so 8 - 7 is ugly, but another point is that in the past 10 years the team would never have won those games.
To me though, it isn't any reason to dump on any particular player, and frankly that seems like what it has become all about - to the extent that there is no actual hockey discussion other than ... well, technically, in a general sense it sounds a lot like I might be describing troll-like behaviiour. I guess it is what it is, isn't it?
Panarin is a good/great player -he'll make a big impact on his team - but hockey is built on 4 forward lines (3 arguably and one patched together...) not to mention d pairs and goalie tandems. Sikura? I don't know - I don't think he is a fit going forward - he is not a 3rd liner guy, he definitely is not a 4th liner guy, and the other 2 lines look like they are relatively set for a few seasons to come ... I think that structurally, barring a lot of moves (and not just moves for salary cap space), it would be pretty tough to make it fit without breaking what is currently there. And in this case it looks like it took a fair amount of effort to get that buy in as a team --- so why would you do that as a GM/coach?
I don't think they do.

if it took 7 x 9mil for stone and he wanted to come to the hawks would you do it?
assuming Kubilak signed you would add him and Stone and remove Kruger, Kunitz and AA ( would have to move him)
SAAD-Teows-Kane/stone
CAt-strome-kane/stone
Kubalik-kampf-Kahun
Caggulia-hayden-perlini/sikura
I know it does not solve your D problems. |

Could Kahun slip over to 3C? Isn't that his natural position? - LAHawk
I believe center is Kahun's natural position. Not sure how well he would thrive in that role in the NHL. He is a playmaker with good skating and vision, so possibly.
If Toews/Kane and DeBrincat/Strome stick as top 6 pairs next year, I would keep Kahun as the RW for 12 and 17. He is acquitting himself well in that role putting up 0.50 PPG as a rookie who had bounced around the lineup prior to his current tenure on L2.
Assuming he continues to click on that line, he could be a future 50-60 point player to go along with mates who are capable of being 1.00 PPG forwards. |

Any update on Seabs strained abdominal? - LAHawk
Myers:
My #Blackhawks summary today:
Brent Seabrook (abdominal strain) will NOT go to Detroit. Neither will Corey Crawford, who hasn't been medically cleared yet. |

When it was mentioned the other day that Corey was "sick", nobody stated any specifics. Or, maybe I just missed it? Are we to assume that it was non-injury related?

Apparently a few are trading Kahun. I hope they can find someone to move Kahun down a slot. A 3rd line with Saad and Kahun is a nice start. IMO |

It isn't a matter of Stone versus Panarin - it's a matter of having cap space to re-sign DeBrincat after the 2019/20 season. Especially now that it's a very real possibility he will hit 40+ goals this season. A month or two ago when we were hoping he would surpass last season scoring and get to 30 goals - it was a good guestimate that maybe he could be re-signed for something in the $6M-$7M range, but that is now looking to be unrealistic as he's cruising toward 40+ goals.
And it's not just DeBrincat that needs to be re-signed after the 2019/20 season - it's also Strome, Kahun, Caggiula, Hayden, and Crawford and Gustafsson will hit UFA after that season too.

Need to hold onto this kid. Wouldn't like it at all if he was swapped out in a package deal.

I just keep wondering, is it by design when a dman is battling for a puck along the boards and the other dman comes all the way over and vacates the middle of the ice? It can't be can it? |

It doesn't SOLVE them...but it could help. The D is scrambling, but one thing I've noticed (not last night) the forwards are helping more in the d-zone. They're still scrambling around at times, but I hope an offseason with Colliton could help that. I'm not saying sign Stone, but if you get one more, less expensive 15-20 goal, 200ft player, you may have something there.
I don't know who that is, though.

I would also retain Kahun. With the current personnel, I like him with DeBrincat and Strome. Yet, assuming the top 6 can get new personnel to fill the LW and RW spots filled by Caggiula and Kahun presently, I would also prefer Kahun that play 3rd line ideally with Saad and a new 3C.
I know, lots to ask for as that is desiring 3 new players whether from the prospect pool, free agency, or trade. |

I like him as well, he didn't produce points earlier but i enjoyed his effort on the ice. He's got some skill and a player who seems to be getting stronger or better as the season goes along, that's rare usually it's the other way around
He's also one of those players you can bounce up and down the line up |
