Interesting, but it doesn't surprise me.

Btw some don't criticize the Hawks, they focus on criticizing other bloggers who don't think, cheer, share information, think the same way they do.

Well there was John Scott, all kidding aside, Brett Burns and Dustin Byfyglin went from D to forward back to D, Doug Mohns (who scored 20 goals as a defenseman when that was unheard of) Wendell Clark and Red Kelley are the others I could think of.

If the cat hits 40-45 goals, how on earth are you signing him for under 9 million? And then if you are looking to seriously add Panarin, how are you signing him for under 9 mil? You will have 40+ million tied up in 4 forwards

Just wait till he comes out of his sophomore slump!

I'm watching the Toronto/St.Louis game (2-0 Blues through 1). I really like Kapanen - the guy is tenacious and he can fly. Great shot, kills penalties. Stan - please try to get Kapanen to sign an offer sheet. He's worth the 2020 1st round pick it would cost.
- EbonyRaptor

Offer sheet at just over $4M only costs a 2nd rounder. He will be in demand.

Kassian once in his career has had over 10 goals (14), Shaw is a much better offensive player, why trade for Kassian, if you need that type of player just bring up Martinsen.
- LAHawk

Kassian played less minutes most of the time is a better fighter and more physically intimating. I'd prefer him over hayden. Martinsen is great for hitting bit that's all he does which I dont mind if you have him with kassian to be nasty and a poop stirrer.
If you have hayden up you need to have another physical player to have his back. He's just starting play good fight wise he needs lessons. He has horrible balance doesnt deter anyone his lone highlight was a closed eyed lucky punch on foligno.
But if hayden gets into it who's his only backup? A couple old vets who know how to get into a pile and grab someone like seabs Toews or keith. When kane got run against Boston the only thing hayden did was tackle a guy. A tough role for a young guy to play. We should have someone physical and tough as the six dman to play with gus or on the 4th line sikura isnt ready and isnt a 4th line role player.

kassian for perlini and or hayden I would do. Perlini is awful. He can skate that's it. 6'3 pansy who had 20 goals on a horrible totes tea getting prime minutes and getting garbage goals. But getting strome for schmaltz was a steal. Strome is a smaller less physical joe thorton.

Goons don't deter, they may be able to beat up a guy after he's hurt a teammate but he doesn't deter. I can't believe anyone is suggesting Kassian should be a Blackhawk. The guy can't play hockey.

There's three things that have to happen for the Hawks to sign Kapanen with an offer sheet - (1) he has to get to July 1st without Toronto re-signing him, (2) he has to like the offer enough to sign it, and (3) it has to be enough that Toronto won't/can't match it. I'm just guessing that an offer of $5.5M for 7 years may be enough to get it done.

I've watched Edmonton play a few times over the past couple weeks for the purpose of watching Puljujarvi play. One game the coaches had him in the press box and the other games he did absolutely nothing. He's a slower Perlini. He looks clueless out there.
- EbonyRaptor

Well that is pretty harsh . Could be a factor of playing on a terrible team .Not saying going to give up anything big for him maybe a 2nd or 3rd .Just saying he could be worth kicking the tires on . Strom did not look like much till he came over here ..

Watched some of the St.Louis and Toronto game. Hawks would get destroyed in playoffs if they ever played either team, with this defense of ours.

That is why i worded it as jumping over them. Still too close to call for wildcard teams.

If the Hawks think they are getting in they will add a legit defense-man.

I don't think anyone ever questioned Strome's hockey IQ - it was more about his physical limitations. Perlini and Puljujarvi problems, on the other hand, is very much a question of hockey IQ. They're both still young so maybe they've got the jitters and they eventually settle down and play better but at this point I'd say it's doubtful. A Perlini for Puljujarvi trade straight up might be worth it.

Saad is severely under rated, please just keep this guy. He is a 200' players that has some grit and always works hard. The third line without him would self destruct.
- joegreif17

Absolutely keep Saad - as this team improves his value will be evident

Kapanen is a better target then Panarin - checks a lot of boxes
I would offer sheet 6m x 5 years

Just as long as it makes sense going for the future and not just a pure rental. They are more than one legit d-man away from being good enough to win a series against a legit playoff team.

And the difference in AAV between Panarin and Kapanen is a good ways toward paying for a legit top-4 d-man if you can find one.
