The problem signing Panarin isn't the available cap space in 2019/20 - it's the lack of available cap space in 2020/21 when DeBrincat, Strome and Kahun will need to be re-signed. - EbonyRaptor
Yes, and the same with signing a Stone or Duchene this summer if they are available. |

I'm going off topic here. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Scott Powers has a long article up on The Athletic about Marian Hossa. Powers visited him and talked to Hossa about his skin condition, time in the league and what he's doing now.
Marian Hossa was an absolute warrior before I read this article, now I don't even have the word to describe his remarkable fortitude. I would highly recommend everyone here find a way to read that article.

Love the font to hear Justin, but I would like a hockey trade if it is meant to be, and I will Ruffle some feathers here. I would like to see a kid like Tom Wilson or Josh Manson added in a hockey trade scenario. Otherwise just accumulate draft picks.
And if they have a chance to trade Dylan Sakura , Do it right now. I don’t think that kid will amount to anything. I watch him from the 300 level and maybe I could be wrong. For as small as he is he is a horrible skater, and it looks like he runs on his skates and skates stiff upward motion at least when he is starting out. At least kids like the cat and Kane Have some ass in bulk to them. Lastly I would not put it past Stan Bowman to be discussing stuff like you are talking about for a kid like Matt Duchene. Convention coming up uncle John wants the splash |

Other than the assist to Kane the other night, I've yet to see that kid make a play. Low hockey I.Q. and no physical presence = bust. |

Well, one thing is, Crawford is better than anyone you listed. Plus he has significant playoff experience, as well as those 2 Stanley Cup wins.
Really, if you were the CLG GM, you’d want Elliott, Howard, Reimer, Miller, Allen over CC? Quick may be the only other reasonable option. - scottak
Was better than anyone listed. 2 severe concussions in 2 seasons, 6-14-2 record this year. He isn't an elite goalie anymore. If you could move him for anything and get his 6 mil off the books for next year you do it. But I don't see anyone trading for him. He is finished

Sure. And here's the article link for anyone who has a subscription: https://theathletic.com/8...on-that-ended-his-career/
1. “As soon as start training camp and I start seeing the last four years, it was every time I put equipment on,” Hossa said. “The skin start breathing. There’s game, game, game. All of a sudden, boom. The trainers see it every time and they’re like, here we go again.”
2. Hossa has pictures of his skin from around that time, and was willing to show a few. In them, he has red blotches all over his feet and legs. The redness of each blotch varies. Some are darker, some are lighter, but they are plentiful.
3. Everyone within the Blackhawks’ dressing room knew about Hossa’s skin condition. His teammates saw it up close. Joel Quenneville and his staff knew. Everyone kept it a secret.
Even as Hossa began asking for more and more practices and morning skates off so he wouldn’t have to put on his equipment, no one revealed the real reason. Quenneville called them maintenance days.
4. “After the yellow and then the blood and then after it, everything is all over,” Hossa said. “The wife washing the sheets all the time. She’s not happy too. So there’s different things. It didn’t just affect my hockey life, but my life away from hockey. I said I think this is putting to a different level where this is not right.”
^^ That last one Hossa is referring to his skin leaking pus and blood all over his bed sheets all the time.

Very well could be the case of getting comfortable and not wanting to move. But at the same time, as an expiring contract he’s a likely trade candidate as well who could be moved in the coming days. In that case, him hitting the market becomes even more likely.
Guess we’ll have to see how it plays out, but either way, I’m still keeping an eye out on that possibility.
Improving the third line (depth scoring in general) is a glaring need for the Hawks, so I’d rather see money allocated there (two good upgrades) rather than a luxury like Panarin who does not solve any of the current Hawk issues. - TommyHawk
I like your ideas of pursuing Staal and Silfverberg for the 3rd line say with Saad as the other winger. Not sure how attainable Staal is as he's likely to have many suitors, including the Wild, but if he could be had at the AAV and term you suggested, then by all means do what you can to get him.
Silfverberg is no longer considered a top 6 talent but he is capable of putting up 20/20 stats which is what I would expect of a 3rd liner. Saad is definitely capable of at least that and so could Staal. Again, not sure how realistic it is to get Staal but I would think Silfverberg may be attainable as a UFA. His current salary is $3.750 so a raise up to $4.5-$4.8 range?
EDIT: Realized both Staal and Silfverberg are UFAs. |

I like Panarin as much as the next fan, but the team needs more defense, from the d-men and forwards. Subtracting Saad while adding Panarin doesn’t help with that, it makes the team worse (in that regard). |

Saw Boqvist play live today.
He had 2 assists in a 9-4 Knights loss to my Steelheads.
Observations.
Game seems to come easy to him. He floats around between whistles with a very relaxed demeanor. He was paired for large parts of the game with fellow '18 first rounder Evan Bouchard (EDM). The two have good chemistry, especially on the power player, where they comprised the top D pairing whenever London had a man advantage.
Boqvist displayed good positional instincts, covering for his partner when the flow called for it. He can pivot athletically from attacking to defending and has a good active stick in breaking up opposing rushes.
He also boldly jumped into the rush when lanes opened for him.
A good passer with good vision, he adroitly flicked a backhand to an open mate in the slot, and that player buried a power play goal for London's final tally. He also likes to rove around the entire offensive zone while on the power play, looking for open ice to be a passing target for mates.
He's smallish and generally shunned contact. His did have one clear cut shooting chance and fired a slap shot into the goalie's crest. His shot doesn't appear to be a weapon. Didn't observe him play any PK minutes.
Overall, talented puck mover who seems like a Top 4 D prospect, but will face the obvious speed/size challenges against an NHL forecheck.

Thanks for sharing your observations on Boqvist.
Don't he and Bouchard both shoot right? If so, which one plays the left side? |

They do both shoot right and would eclipse each other often while flipping sides.
Neither was wedded to any side. Boqvist seemed flexible on either side while defending, on the pp, or in attack. |

My predictions....
AA + Forsling to Carolina for B. Pesce and a 3rd.
- Hockey trade on both side, Carolina is thin at center and AA is a guy who will be better with ice time and linemates. Chicago needs a reliable stay at home puck-mover. Forsling balances out the trade, is the odd-man out in Chicago.
E. Gustaffson + Kruger to Tampa for Paquette and T. Raddysh.
- Paquette is an UFA and there is next to no chance that Toronto resigns him. Kruger places what he brings this year, meanwhile Hawks get a younger version at the same cap hit(they'll resign him). The price for Tampa here is Gus. Taylor Raddysh balances the trade in a sellers market. - Bjm84
Your trade proposals are dumb. They are always so far in the hawks favour. |

Thanks, philco! Good to hear that Boqvist is playing both sides. Great experience for him to add that flexibility now in juniors rather than later as a pro when it may be more difficult.
Always liked Bouchard and thought the Hawks were going to draft him at 8th. Haven't been following him since the draft but seems like he's doing well, too. |

What's the statistical probability of Colliton changing his defensive scheme next year?
A recurrent nightmare sees quality d-men acquired, and still not being able to implement his plan. |

As your article states...just for fun...why not send Anisimov, Saad and Sikura to Columbus for Panarin and just about any DEFENSIVE defenseman??? |

Wonder what it woul take to get Alec Martinez from the Kings. He can still play top 4 minutes, is left handed, and has one more year left at $4 mil., and the Kings are in full rebuild mold. |

Thanks, Philly. Hope you enjoyed the game. It's good to keep tabs on the young guys. Is the defensive side of his game coming along well? Roaming and wandering don't seem like good signs ... |

Cheers Bud ! They're both in good hands with Dale Hunter. That org has a proud history and expects a lot from anyone that wears the jersey, especially a guy like Dale.
Discovered that Bouchard did actually have a 7 game cameo in Edmonton this year but was obviously sent back for more seasoning. He's a towering presence physically. His skating and speed did not stand out, but he's got a a big shot and seems to be the pp QB over Boqvist, though they do work well together. |

Yo Bread ! Great game. My boys are red hot.
Boqvist seems ok defensively. Quick. Takes good angles on oncoming forwards. His roving came more on the pp.
