It was Larsson, Girgensons, McCabe and Pilut on the ice. When the alternate captain says he's gonna fight, they're going to defer to him.
I'm sure they didn't think they need to stick up for the 30-year old, 220 lb alternate captain.
He made a poor choice to fight, and he paid the price. - jcragcrumple
Sorry JCrags, I usually like your posts.
This one you are way, way far off course.
If you are a man at all, you dont let your inferiorly-able teammate fight their own fights against a superior oponent. It just isnt something a man of integrity does, period. THAT is the problem with the team, no integrity. No team..just a bunch of wussys afraid to stick up for each other. This team needs a serious infusion of heart and guts.
This kind of reaction is just piss poor IMO |

That all happened in a span of seconds
How is Girgs (or whoever) supposed to notice that Okposo is even being challenged & then get over there to drop their own gloves BEFORE Okposo responded by dropping his?
That’s just unrealistic
The other guys are all continuing with the play
Okposo got challenged, he should’ve declined
THEN there would’ve been an opportunity for a teammate to step up & say “i’ll go” |

He wears a letter on this team. He made the choice. If you want Larsson or Girgs to jump in for him, then fine, but at the end of the day, it was his choice to fight. He could have bear hugged him or walked away. He chose to square up and fight, and 22 and 28 deferred to Okposo - the 220 pound guy wearing a letter.
He made a really bad decision, and I am really hoping he's alright. Scary poop. |

Have you ever seen 2 guys drop the gloves, square off, then someone else jumps in?
Kyle dropped the gloves, it's on him at that point.

Hopefully Winnberg is code for Anderson. That is a move I could get behind. - Hatboro_Swords
I like josh Anderson.
Decent goals, assists, hits and shots per game
Not soft.
Although young and probably not on the trade market |

I just looked everything up regarding Okposo, retirement, and the cap recapture rules.
You are correct: with Okposo having being paid a total of $4M over his cap hit through his first 3 seasons, his cap recapture penalty would be $1M per for the next 4 years, should he retire after this season. |

Duchene is a goner. Panarin is scratched tonight but apparently it’s due to illness. |

I doubt we’d have to worry about any Cap Recapture issues
Okposo wouldn’t retire,
he’d just go on LTIR until his contract runs out so he can still get paid
See: Pronger, Horton, Clarkson, etc |

I don’t think there was really much doubt these guys would get traded
Stone too. I’d be pretty surprised if he signs in Ottawa |

Good player, but he doesn’t fit our timeline
Only 1 year left on his current deal
He’ll turn 31 early in year 1 of his new deal
Too bad he’s not younger, or has more years left on his current contract
Don’t think he’s a good fit for us bc of that |
