Foundation is built through the draft, depth is built through the draft. Free agency and a trade or two puts the cherry on top. |

So Evander Kane gets in all kinds of trouble during his time here and becomes a model citizen in San Jose.
Ryan O'Reilly was a cancer in the Sabres locker room and has become a great teammate in St. Louis.

Okposo and Lehner considered suicide while they were here. Berglund walked away from millions not to play here anymore. I know they all have their individual circumstances but, kind of a pattern, right? - PrinceChill
It sure is strange and kinda unexplainable. Sabres curse? |

I can’t say , but it doesn’t seem that any other team in the league has this many, and this severe of problems. |

We'll see. All I can look forward to is the deadline, not only for Buffalo but across the league, and more importantly, what does Botts do at the draft. He holds a lot of cards.
The key when you build through the draft, as you suggested, is you have to have 2-3 very good drafts and hit on later round picks. Last year was a good start. |

Was thinking about Botts answer to the question about fans calling for the firing of Housley, and being surprised about the fans feeling.
I have to believe that Botts must have formed some negative opinions of a significant portion of the roster as the problem, not the coaching...so he is giving Phil a pass. Pointing the finger more at himself for the roster, not as much at Phil and his xtaff.
I think that is accurate about the roster, but Phil has his improvement opportunities himself. Also, the D had been playing pretty, pretty good in November and much credit was given to Smith ... but that has now reverted back to being quite unstable.
I think we see soome hockey trades this offseason to replace guys we may have thought to be relatively safe ... Risto, I'm looking at you. |

Judging by previous seasons, I think it’ll be a quiet deadline here. One minor deal perhaps. But I’m thrilled he has the draft picks he does. Drafting seems to be his best attribute. |

I didn’t get any impression from JB that he was pointing the finger at himself. Phil was his hire and he’s standing behind him 100%. So now we’re really banking on growth and development, which in some cases has been good and others not. |

Good post. I don't know what the answer is but clearly Botts and Housley need to do a better job. I would hope he dumps the dead weight in the off season and either through trade or FA he gets players in here with SC experience. It is sorely lacking on this roster.

IMO you see 4 players (from the system) out and 2 players brought in. |

That'd be a super busy day, I think we'll see Beaulieu moved and then we'll need to wait until the draft |

Replace pills with coke and you have 80-90% of the bar scene in Buffalo, which is most of the population. And the players follow suit. |
