If Skinner really wants to play here, you convince him that trading him now for something that will improve the team in the future is the best option.
"Hey Jeff, we will give you $8.5m a year on July 1st and get your new right winger by trading you on Tuesday. "
It really would be in everyone's best interest and I wouldn't be too worried about losing him to other suitors due to him wanting to be close to home, Toronto not having any room for him and the chemistry he has had with Jack. |

Haglin to the Caps - SABRES 89
For a 3rd & conditional 6th
Sounds about right
He’ll fit nicely on the Caps 4th line & be used on the PK
Good addition for their playoff run |

That benefit is not worth the uncertainty that somebody will poach him or something will change in the intervening 5 months. Sign him now and avoid the cutesies.

Besides Moluson of course. Cause we even overpaid for him in FA too. |

If you can get Tolavenien and a 1st, is it worth the risk? Thinking one of the two COULD replace skinner as well. I would think the trade would have to be for a top end prospect and a 1st to make it worth it.
Doubt you could squeeze Puljarvi and a 1st for him, but that could be ideal.
Or Bellows and NYI 1st? Doubt they would do that unless they thought they could resign skinner. |

Last time I can remember was Keith Tkachuk in 07/08 when St. Louis moved him to Atlanta for like 3 prospects and a conditional 1st. The condition was if he resigned in St. Louis they sent the 1st back. |

Carl Hagelin making Caps debut on Saturday in Buffalo, which of course means he'll be scoring a goal

Moulson has more goals and points than anyone on the Amerks. In all honesty I could see someone signing him to a vet minimum contract next year. |

For me to want to try it...
we gotta get the type of return you talk about
PLUS
the trade would have to be to a team we don’t think could re-sign him
So that Nashville option looks good to me
We are pretty screwed if we lose Skinner though
So we’d have to have a wink wink agreement with him to come back
And it would likely have to be at the full asking price since it could only be a 7year deal |

I doubt it, cause at this point in the season, wouldn’t someone offer a 6th rounder for him if we hold salary? To give him a try for the rest of this season? Who knows, but I doubt he would be interested unless it was LA (where he lives / plays now). |

You are correct, it would have to be 7 years ~$9m per. I would not hate that if we traded and got top assets for him first, but if that deal was announced today (without a trade of course) I would not be too happy. |

So let’s say he’d agree to an 8x8 deal
In the summer,
we’d likely have to make it 9m for 7yrs then for him to recoup most of the $$$
I can live with that if it gets us a top prospect & another 1st |

Buyout (guaranteed) money is higher in an 8 year deal. |

Have not been to a Bison's game in over 20 years, but with potentially having Vlad Jr and Cavan Biggio in the lineup, I might have to check them out this Spring. Both their dad's in the HOF I believe. |

Same with you! I agree, about doing that but not sure I team gives up enough to take the risk with it since they would have an idea we were trying that. |
