Mittelstadt who is not ready for 2nd line center, he put this team together and it is not very good. - SABRES 89
This is important. I don't want to judge Casey quite yet, but assuming he could be the number 2 center was a real miscalculation from Botts. |

I will guarantee you they either trade or lose Skinner, an established goal scorer, then they will say don't worry we have two 15 goal scorers waiting to take his place... That is the Sabres mindset and why they are forever stuck in mediocrity... - rapperray
I'll lose my mind.
Well, lose more of it. |

Been a Sabres fan for 40 years.
Not that I want to wait, and tomorrow isn't guaranteed, but I want it built right. I want to be the Bruins (who have cups and are in the playoffs every (frank)ing year, and seem to draft well no matter where they draft - heck, the core of their last Cup winning team was made up of 2nd and 3rd rounders and some good trades). - Powerslave
The Bruins succeed because they have top notch people in the front office from top to bottom... The Sabres have Kim Pegula as President.... The Sabre organization is amateurish compared to others.. |

Botts could have easily made trades last year and not sat on his hands in order to finish better then last place. Last place won the lottery. Could of ended up with Brady Tkchuk, or Filip Zadina instead of Dahlin if he makes desperation moves to try and make the playoffs or make the run to mediocrity like the Panthers always seem to do around this time of year. |

It took Ovi what ? 12 years to win a cup. The Caps drafted Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Carlson, Wilson, Vrana, Holtby... They traded futures for Shattenkirk (bust), traded Filip Forsberg (a useless top 15 pick) for Martin Erat. The year they win the cup they do nothing but add Michael freaking Kempny. Build through the draft. The sabres are where they are becuase they couldn’t draft worth a poop. I’m not saying to not make a trade or a free agent signing or too, but drafting allows teams to win for “now on”. - Pegullaville
Ever look back at Darcy's stunning run of former 1st rounders. It's a who's who of who?
Draft and develop well and the rest takes care of itself. |

What's your point?
The Sabres also had Seymour and Norty. No Cups.
Scotty Bowman. No Cups.
Punch Imlach. No Cups.
Perreault, Martin, Gare, Robert, Hasek, Mogilny, LaFontaine, Hawerchuk. No Cups.
Let's not blame Kim Pegula.

OK... let's assume this is the right way to go... Look who they have coaching these alleged gems...... That right Phil Figging Housely... The powderpuff of all powderpuffs.... Not a coach who has actually achieved something but Phill powderpuff Housely... Give him 300 Gretzkys and he couldn't win |

and he could have done nothing, finished last. and drafted 4th and not got Dahlin....it was a matter of pure luck... (For once it went our way, unlike the previous two tries)

I'll give you that. Not sold on Phyllis myself. I'm almost hoping they win 5 games the rest of the way and Botterill has no choice. |

I dont think that was the plan though. Berglund was supposed to be the defensive minded 2/3 center and Mitts was supposed to go up against lesser (3rd line) talent.
Sounds great on paper until Berglund sucks and leaves. I wouldn't be surprised if Botts put the feelers out for a decent defensive center and the asking price was too high. All the other GMs had him by the shorts. And 2C's dont grow on trees. Most teams want to keep theirs.

agree, however... another miscalculation (the sucking, not the retiring). |

Everyone you listed Besides the last one, had winning seasons and playoffs... you think finishing dead last the next ten years will guarantee a cup??? No it won't, you need someone that knows how to build a team... You think. botts can do it, me and some other don't. Nothing wrong with having different opinions. |

I heard his name mentioned 1 time and I posted it a few weeks ago, not sure he is willing to give up what it takes. I did hear Botterill is willing to move 1 or 2 of the 1st round picks we have. Skinner's money will play into this game also, I heard it may get close to 9 a year. Before that I heard it was between 7.8 and 8.25 a year. |

Botterill has never been a GM. He has plenty of accomplishments, however.
To a man, every player who has gone through Wilkes-Barre and been promoted to the mothership will tell you that it's Botterill at the top of the list of why they're successful NHL players.
There have been many articles written about it.
If he ends up sucking, he ends up sucking, but let's not cut off his balls before the fact. 18 months in, and people want to run him out of town. He has NOTHING TO DO with previous regime's failures. He deserves a shot, just like every other GM that has come through here. |

To follow up what 89 said I’ve seen Duchene to the Sabres on twitter mentioned a few times throughout the past couple of months. |
