Tanking for a top 10 pick and doing nothing to salvage the season is helping the future
Why Botts doesn’t get credit for finishing in last, and not making panic moves to “salvage” the season, to select Dahlin beats me. In my eyes without a patient Botts we don’t have Dahlin or Mittelstadt. Sheary, Sobotka, Hunwick, Beaulieu should be gone hopefully by next season and were short term low risk moves that didn’t pan out, oh well. Let’s see what he does with a boatload of cap space and three first rounders before we burn him at the stake. - Pegullaville
Few people realize the Sabres were tanking last season
Some fans saw it as "we were just bad"
There was no way we were trying our best to win last season.

You have quite a negative opinion on everything lately.
But you haven't watched the last 3 games?
Seems odd for a sabres fan to not watch the game, but rip jbotts all week in a hockey forum? - Boss34
go back a reread..... never said I didn't watch the last three games. |

99% of the mess Murray left us is off the books after next season
all is good, team just folded after the 10 game streak and botts did nothing
my only complaint, he is holding the kids back in rochester and icing crap that could be replaced with hope - homiedclown
Fan's hope (you and me) unfortunately doesn't affect the long term plan to build thru the draft and stack the ahl.
I'm glad the Sabres were relevant into mid February
Talk about accepting failure

Have you noticed that it is mostly the youngsters that have no problem hearing year after year, "next year"?!
Give them another 15 - 20 years of "next years".

I can’t speak for the last 20 years. I’d take another 5 first overall picks if it meant raising a cup. Unless you’re only in the business of making the playoffs. When we make the playoffs I want to do damage not for just a quick hello. Edmonton is miles ahead of anyone not named Calgary, San Jose, Winnipeg. Sabres have a brighter future then anyone not named Toronto and Tampa. Just be patient. |

The youngsters haven't been through this as long as we have.

At our age, tomorrows are few.
My brother in law just has survived a widow maker this week.
My point?
You never know, especially at our age.
I'm sick and tired of hearing next year.
Again, I am sick of it!
The younsters don't get it but they will eventually one day. |

I will guarantee you they either trade or lose Skinner, an established goal scorer, then they will say don't worry we have two 15 goal scorers waiting to take his place... That is the Sabres mindset and why they are forever stuck in mediocrity... |

For all we know the top 10 pick this year can be the missing piece. Getting swept by Tampa doesn’t count for anything in 2022. |

No credit for Dahlin.. sorry. Casey has underachieved, so not too excited to give credit there.
Skinner was handed to him, but we'll give him that.. |

Unless you have a top 2 pick in the NHL all the other picks are garbage.... A mid 1st round pick in the NHL is equivalent to a 7th round NFL pick. |

Been a Sabres fan for 40 years.
Not that I want to wait, and tomorrow isn't guaranteed, but I want it built right. I want to be the Bruins (who have cups and are in the playoffs every (frank)ing year, and seem to draft well no matter where they draft - heck, the core of their last Cup winning team was made up of 2nd and 3rd rounders and some good trades). |

Mittelstadt who is not ready for 2nd line center, he put this team together and it is not very good. Dahlin was a no brainer come on now. |

It took Ovi what ? 12 years to win a cup. The Caps drafted Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Carlson, Wilson, Vrana, Holtby... They traded futures for Shattenkirk (bust), traded Filip Forsberg (a useless top 15 pick) for Martin Erat. The year they win the cup they do nothing but add Michael freaking Kempny. Build through the draft. The sabres are where they are becuase they couldn’t draft worth a poop. I’m not saying to not make a trade or a free agent signing or too, but drafting allows teams to win for “now on”. |
