Two weeks ago is different then 2 days before TDL.

Two weeks ago maybe they are still talking about a possible deal to re sign him.

I am just saying, I might hold him out. I said it would be unpopular.

Was it different before last nights game? Where is the cut off point?

You know there is no exact days or time frame. But what's the benefit of playing him tomorrow night in a game that is not like other games.

If he is my biggest trade chip this deadline, I don't see the pro's that make me feel I need to play him compared to the possibility of something happening tomorrow night.

- J35Bacher

I get your point, and honestly, it's very logical reasoning. But 2 things, one based on fans and one based on the TDL:

1) It's against your biggest rival on a huge stage. This win won't make a difference this season, but to the team, and Simmonds, it's still a big game. The Flyers owe it to the 40,000+ fans who shelled out hundreds/thousands of dollars for tix (and Simmonds as a long-tenured player) to play him (IMO).

2) Let's say that, in the next few days, the Flyers don't receive any offers that they feel are worth it. If your best offer is a late 2nd and a D+ prospect, would you make the move, or would you ride it out with him? There's no guarantee that he'll be traded (or resigned), so you'd be sitting him for nothing.

Again, I get your reasoning, but I'd play him as long as he's still on the roster.

Any mention of playoffs will be flagged. Post accordingly.

They haven't even been close to being in their last 2 games. It's scary how bad they've been.

He doesn't want to present reasons, he just wants to tell people why they're all stupid and he's so smart.

I disagree with sitting Simmonds for the game, but I'll at least try to give reasons and not call the guy names.

- jmatchett383

Actually I presented two very good reasons why Simmonds should play tomorrow night if he hasn't been traded. So you got that wrong again. There was nothing condescending about my post. It was straight and to the point in why I think Simmonds should play in the game.

The difference is when i decide. If I know I have teams willing to make moves for Simmonds, I hold him out.

What if all of the offers to date are underwhelming?

I get your points but i have to do what is in the best interest for the Flyers. Not Simmonds, Not the fans.

Also not moving Simmonds would be the worst asset management if you lose him for nothing after the season.

I'm sure that there have been teams showing interest and talking to the Flyers for a period of time now. Again, where is the cut off in your mind? Did you think they should've played him last night?

There is a perfect solution for everyone, just like a team the clinches the playoffs you dress him, but only play him select minutes like the powerplay and easy minutes against a not so physical line.

How many coaches does it take before people finally come to the conclusion that the issue is not coaching?
- MJL

Not THE issue but no doubt it was AN issue.

You take it.

But I don't think they are going to be underwhelming.

I just saw Coyle get a solid prospect like Donato and a pick. I feel Simmonds can grab the same thing and probably a higher pick then what Coyle got.

Donato is a player that I had interest in the past but he played his way out of Boston and reports on his play in the AHL were not positive.

I heard the wisest thing...Elliot comes back and the team goes back to playing the way they did in the first few months of the season...ALL of the team.

Provorov looks sloppy
Hart looks sloppy
Ghost is sloppy

But Elliot, he's a battler...

- wbon22

This makes no sense. Especially considering the FACT that Hart started both games, and Elliot came in and the team let up less goals with him in net.

Unless you are saying Elliot just being in the room is the reason.

Comon dude.

I work on day to day.

Last night was different compared to today. They win last night and Carolina loses I might have a different feeling today.

Again there is no exact day or timeline. But is one game worth the possibility of losing my biggest trade chip?

Well when a team struggles the coach normally pays the price. With the current coach, they had a long losing streak followed by a long winning streak and now have lost two in a row. What will happen? Two games in a row they came out not ready to play at the pace of the opposition. That is not a new problem.

He's only 22 so maybe a change will help. Still a solid prospect.

Thing is, Donato really isn't that good. So the market hasn't improved much/at all for Simmonds.

I don't think so. God forbid something happens we can all talk about how great it was to see him play that outdoor game but because something happened we weren't able to move him and we lose him for nothing.

Yes I know what I am talking about is probably a slim chance of happening. I understand all the facts involved.

Hart. Hasn't looked good the last 2 starts, but I'd give him the nod. Get used to playing Pittsburgh on a big stage.
- jmatchett383

I didnt think he should of played Thursday. Even before the struggles thought this was a perfect night off

He's much closer to a suspect and a career AHL player than he is a solid prospect at this point but you never know what might happen.

At the risk of being called ridiculous, irrelevant, or whatever condescending thing you are about to post, I think the cut-off is very clear. Up until last night the Flyers organization felt they could still make the playoffs. After last nights loss and the fact the other teams we are fighting with keep winning, now even the organization realizes the playoffs are almost impossible and now its time to get what you can for assets we are going to lose. Simmonds being one of them. If the Flyers have been offered a 2nd and a B prospect for Simmonds but they are waiting for a better offer, or for another thing to happen before making the deal and he plays tonight and breaks a leg then they end up with nothing.

Best case scenario if a deal isn't done before tomorrow is to dress him and just play him in protected minutes.

Again, why was the game last night different? You haven't answered that. You haven't answered where the cut off point is.

You don't sit Simmonds in any game because he MIGHT get hurt before a trade. Case closed.

So you're telling me that one loss changed the outlook of the Flyers from thinking they could still make the playoffs to now thinking it is almost impossible?

No such thing as protected minutes in an NHL game.

Finally, I don't have to label the comments you made here ridiculous. They do that all by themselves.
