They are being held out for Precautionary Reasons.
Meaning they don't want to lose a big trade piece because of the chance of injury. - J35Bacher
You can't be much clearer. He has picked his hill to die on today. Let him have it because circular conversations.... lol. It is sad.
Your premise is legit, and I'm sure its something the organization has talked about. |

Dont worry as coach Q is watching form home giving his input to Fletcher!!! |

Hindsight is 20/20, but I would've started Elliot last night. I understand wanting to get Hart right back out there after the rough night vs TB, but I think the organization knew/knows that Hart was going to start tomorrow night. Obviously what played out last night was the worst case scenario, and no one saw it coming, but my point is why risk that happening to him? Now they'll be rolling the kid out there again on a big stage against a team that has had their way with us offensively for a while...
With the outdoor game being such a big deal, I think there's no way Hart wasn't/isn't expected to start. I know if I paid all that money to stand out in the freezing cold rain, I'd be pissed if they started Elliot over Hart. I think the Flyers marketing team recognizes this too. |

Playoff talk aint over until they are eliminated. Still have a good amount of games vs teams they are looking to catch
That being said sit Hart for a few games. He is likely exhausted. Rest him and then send him back out there |

Are we even sure Elliott is the back up tomorrow night? They did just make a move for Talbot. You don't trade for him to have him be scratched |

Yes, I was hoping Talbot was going to start last night or Elliott after his good relief effort. It is probably because Hart had been giving us the best chance to win and the margin of error with points is so few that they started Hart. At least I can’t say management doesn’t want to win. The compete issue at the start of games is on the players.

I have a feeling Fletcher is gonna try to trade JvR. Maybe not this deadline but over the summer. Wasn't his signing - bulet13

How many coaches does it take before people finally come to the conclusion that the issue is not coaching? - MJL
Dude, it's still Hakstol's fault.

my guess is no as he is a coach who commands respect and wont tolerate that type of play on a consistent basis. Add to the fact there will likely be changes to the roster.
There really is no accountability within the team; in terms of players. You think a pronger, kimmo, primeau, jason smith type would allow these type of starts this often? Team has lacked leadership for years. |

Talbot, Elliot, Lyon, Mckenna.... whoever. I was just surprised to see Hart out there.
Sorry man, I misinterpreted your post. You raise a good point about tomorrow's back-up. I wonder who it'll be too |

I was thinking it would have been smart to give Elliott last nights game just for the fact to try and show case him. After the TDL monday, you have to assume the tandem is Hart/Talbot |

I think its time to agree, this team can't win every night on marvelous goaltending alone, Virtually, all the victories against Edmonton, Anaheim, Detroit, Vancouver, NYR, they were outplayed. We won as some of our shots went in, the other teams didn't.
Time to trade Wayne, and hope for a pick in the top five. That most likely won't help us next season.
Is Morgan Frost the real thing. Unless he has a great camp this October, he isn't playing for us, he'll be in the Phantoms to start.
Got contracts expiring, lets sign Erik Karlson, or a player to make an impact, though, I don't want any 8 to 10 year deals. |

You don't sit Simmonds in any game because he MIGHT get hurt before a trade. Case closed. - MBFlyerfan
This.
Also, you don't hold him out because they might get a good offer.
Every game you should ice the lineup that gives you the best chance of winning the game.
Always. |

The good news is that unless the player is on the roster at 3pm on the 25th there is no 8 year deal, and they can't go past 7, if I understand the CBA correctly.

Agreed, moves have to be made, and team play has to improve.
Frosty is the real deal, but I see him getting a little seasoning in the AHL.
Thankfully, I think they limited deals to 8 years now so 5-7 are more common for impact players. (Edit: see previous post) |

So Tampa calls today and offers you Adam Erne, Boris Katchouk and 2020 4th rounder for Simmonds.
Flyers say we will think about it. Tomorrow they counter and ask for the 4th to be a 2019 3rd rounder.
Tampa says give us the day.
Is Simmonds playing in the outdoor game even though your not sure your going to be able to make a deal? - J35Bacher
I'd play him. |

It’s a so-so hockey team being overseen by a mediocre coach and staff. Gordon is basically Hak with better communication skills. The most important thing Fletcher can do this summer is to replace the entire coaching staff. - BiggE

Trade talks can go on for weeks. Teams pull players when a trade is imminent and agreed to in principal normally.
