I assume you're saying this because Stone will likely cost less, and he is a more well-rounded player. Well IMO the flyers shouldn't be aiming for well-rounded. They need play-makers with offensive creativity. Guys that can create time & space on their own, and consistently bury prime scoring chances. I have no issue with Stone. I'm just ready to aim a little higher on the offensive skill - Big_E_88
Panarin should get $11m+
Stone is looking at $10m according to Bob McKenzie and the TSN trade guys |

Coyle had a year left at $3.2m, so his value is higher than Simmonds, who is a rental.

I would argue teams still hold Simmonds in higher regard than Coyle, even with term left. Simmonds for Donato? Flyers would have asked for more. |

nothing has changed they are still a team in transition. They need more experience for their young players, they need more speed and skill. They have to many of the same type of players.
I hate to say it but someone like Lindblom might make sense to put in a trade package. I like Lindblom a lot but he is a lot like others in the line up. For that matter Laughton, I like him a lot, he has good wheels but just not enough skill to play up in the line up. They need to reshape the lineup
You have G, Coots, Jake, JVR, Patrick, Lindbolm, Simmer, Laughton and TK in the top 9. You have to trade Simmer and replace him with speed and skill but that still leaves not enough speed or not enough skill. So who do you replace to change the O dynamic? Has to be Laughton and Lindbolm. - wcorvette
I feel like this line of thinking got us Luke Schenn...Too many forwards so lets ship a young guy out before we really know what he is. |

Stone is no slouch offensively. And I do like his all-around game. I'd be ok with either. I just really like Stones game and feel having a more well rounded player would help more since it's not like Stone can't score |

Doesn't matter what YOU think. Some NHL teams will sit the players while others won't, no right answer. Not a terrible idea to protect your asset. - ClaudeFather
Um, given that is what we are discussing here, it does matter what he thinks. Just like it matters what you think. |

They could really be in trouble here. Rain Saturday night and Sunday. - MJL
Its bound to happen with one of these outdoor games at some point. The rain, plus it being like 60 during the day Saturday. I dont know how they're going to be able to maintain the ice surface. |

You're completely out of context. The poster asked this question.
"Probably an unpopular opinion but would you sit Simmonds for the outdoor game if he is your biggest trade chip? If your not re-signing him, is it worth it to risk a possible injury?"
Who was he asking, the posters on this forum or the NHL execs killing time on the thread? - MJL
Wait, those are two different groups? |

The debate and question asked was if they should sit Simmonds. So it does matter what I think. What was not up for debate is what teams do or don't do. - MJL

We know what we have with Laughton, the unknown in Lindblom but we have a pretty good idea of his ceiling. It is more about the mix right now.
They added JVR which is a similar player to our core players, looking back, they should have traded Simmer for a different type of player earlier. |

Gotcha. Hey, why not both!
Especially if they do trade Jake or JVR. I know, I'm getting into pipe-dream territory now |

Would not have minded Coyle as a stop gap to Frost. What would it have cost us? |

Wow. I know Stone is a very good player, but didn't realize he was that highly regarded.
He's having a career year, right? Is there any worry that maybe his stats are a little inflated by being the best player on a terrible team? |

I thought the plan in general after moving Giroux to wing was to also keep him off the PK to preserve him for the year and years but he's still playing the PK and returned to center. I would like that fixed.
Regarding slow starts....well those have been a hallmark of this team for years, seems to have little to do with who is in the coaching position.
I understand pulling Hart last night but I also would have understood leaving him in there. Sometimes people need to work themselves out of their own messes. I think you absolutely have to put him back in for the outdoor game. Taking it away from him now WOULD be a punishment. Yes he's been sloppy but he seems mature enough that you can correct him without smacking him on the nose. |

I know +/- isn't the greatest stat, but he's been a + player b2b seasons on terrible teams. this year +13. He's been a great guy for the young players on Sens from what i've read throughout this season. He really has a complete game from defense to scoring/assisting. Logs in big minutes too. |

I agree. Not every player has to be a highly skilled playmaker on a team. Both Laughton and Lindblom skate well, play well physically and defensively away from the puck and can provide secondary scoring. Both are keepers. |

Lindblom is strong on his skates but not fast or quick. Still like the kid and want him on the team. He does not fall under the skate well category. |

If Panarin makes it to the open market this offseason, I think the Flyers should go very hard after him. I hesitate to say "go all-in", because I don't want to see a crazy record-setting contract, but I also recognize that it's going to take a massive deal that will be tough to swallow at first.
At 27, he is in his prime. And IMO he is exactly the type of player this team needs to truly move this thing along towards being serious contenders. As long as the numbers aren't too crazy, I'd go for it. Plus there's the history with coach Q, for whatever that's worth. Which I realize may be nothing - Big_E_88
Hasn't Panarin declared he's testing the market regardless if he is dealt this season? |
