Really like these CBJ deals. While it appears they are "going all in", I think these trades are contingency moves for losing Panarin as they may think they can resign them easier than Panarin, who clearly has his heart set on getting max cash. If they lose both Panarin and Bob (likely) they will have a boatload of cash to spend in free agency.
Duclair is an awful hockey player, it's remarkable he was a main piece in a trade that just got a guy on pace for about 60 points. |

I think the 2nd round picks were likely more the main piece and Duke went along for the ride.
Like you said, they look to be good moves by CBJ as they likely lose Panarin and Bobro.
Maybe we could trade Forsberg back to Jarmo and he can take over when Bob leaves.(RF) |

Hey DK,
Had to look that up. No surprise really. There's no way they could bring him back, even with money owed. The dead cap space sucks but worth it not to have Captain Clang on the team anymore. If the kick didn't seal his fate, the Today appearance show surely did. See ya Cody!
Would be great if they could bring Gould back. The nice thing about the Hawks resurrecting their season is I have things to look forward to between now and the Bears' season.
Upgrading the backend would be great...also think Colliton having his camp and everyone in for it should help some too. - HawkintheD
Rumor has it the 49ers will put the franchise tag on Gould preventing him from signing elsewhere.

I like kap a lot more and i do agree . Nylander would be risky. Who then would you look to that is young and would slot in as a solid 2c or 3c without over paying? - Taylorst1
Strome is our future 2c. I would prioritize fixing out defense over getting a 3c. Sign/trade for a top 4 D over the summer. If we are a contender next year, make a TDL trade for a 3rd line center. |

If they'd take Forsberg back that would be good, but they really like the goalie behind Bob right now and I think they will roll with him next year, sign a veteran backup and keep on. I could see them adding another player in UFA, they have some good young talent there. What CBJ is going through with Panarin right now is why Stan moved him. Despite the love affair between Kane and Panarin, Breadman clearly has his money on his mind and his mind on his money. I am very interested to see if his level of play maintains or even improves once he gets paid or does he go Alex Semin? I like him WAY more than Semin, but no one can deny Semin had elite talent, but nothing inside his chest, Panarin has more inside him so I doubt he flames out after getting paid, but if he does he wouldn't be the first. |

He could be...but why do the Hawks want him? What hole does he fill? I'm not aware of him being a great 2 way fwd. If the Hawks were to trade for him it almost guarantees someone like Saad needs to go at some point and I'd rather keep Saad. - HawkintheD
He does play center and it's true he received his deal and hasn't been playing to the level.
Who out their either via trade or free agency could Chicago target to improve that 2c or 3c slot young player ? That would be reasonable and impactful?
Saad wouldn't necessarily have to go. The new CBA would be coming up and then stan could buyout k3ith and Seabrook which I think we all believe Stan will do. Thatsm12million free |

Who then does Chicago target and at what cost? Keith and Seabrook are locked up for 4 and 5 more years at 12 million. Now if the new CBA happens and they could be bought out that's perfect.
But Chicago does need help in their bottom 6 and will need a young solid 2 or 3c .remember toews has maybe 2 more solid years left we hope. |

I was over at capfriendly looking at CBJ cap hits after their recent trades.
They have 49.4M tied up in forwards, 15.3+M in defense, 8.3+M in goalies, 3.5M on injured reserve (not LTIR), and 4.4M in buyouts. That equals almost 81M.
But capfriendly shows them with a projected cap hit at 75M and 4.5M in cap space.
Can anyone explain that?

The Blackhawks score plenty of goals- 6th in the league in goals scored at this point despite the holes in their bottom six, tied with the Jets. They are dead last in the league in goals against. Seems pretty obvious that they need to upgrade that woeful defense corps. Murphy and Dahlstrom, a 4-5 and 7 on a decent team, are referred to as the "shut down pair" this year- let that sink in. Improve the defense next year and they can be back in business. They need defensemen that can skate. Seabs, Murphy, and Dahlstrom really lack mobility. |

We have a lot of cap space now. Keith's salary is a bargain. Seabrook's salary sucks, but all teams have a bad contract, or have massive cap problems. I'm not to worried about these contracts.
I'm sure we can find a solid player for around 4 million. Stralman comes to mind. Or Stan can make another under the radar trade. Russel was discussed earlier and I'm sure their are other options. We don't need someone flashy, just someone to get the job done. |

His brother Alexander has been a dismal failure as high pick by Buffalo a couple years ago. Maybe he could be Stan's 2019 Strome reclamation project.
William - too expensive @ nearly $7M per year.
Hawks need to find one miserable, ill tempered defenceman with size. That should be a priority. |

Compliance buyouts would be nice if included in the CBA in a couple of years, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
As far as free agent centers Dzingel can play all three forward spots, so he's a possibility. Also, Brock Nelson and Anders Lee from the NYI?
Of course, the Hawks still have Anisimov. If the Hawks can sign a free agent C, he'll be expendable.
Hawks have to improve their D over the summer also. They're are now in a quandary with Keith and Seabrook not going anywhere, expensive and declining, a few guys who are currently 6-7 type defensemen, and the prospects still a couple of years away.

Keith's salary is reasonable , however Keith is no longer a top 1 or 2 d man. His production has tapered and it's likely he will decline even more next year being older.
Stralman came to mind but at what cost and for how long . Then as far as other free agents id rather see Stan if he is going to pay at least find someone who is young and will be part of the future.

You said it best if Chicago can put together a solid 3rd line to roll out with a couple of depth 4th linemplayers who can playmdefensively and add some timely scoring all without making huge cap sacrifices then look to find 1 solid top 4 defenseman on a friendly deal , |

On the Chicago Blackhawks Duncan Keith is a #1 defenceman and it isnt even close. He isnt going anywhere this year or in the forseeable future. But there are plenty of teams who would offer garbage prospects and picks in trade for him and be delighted with their good fortune in acquiring him. |

I get it that its so hard for people to step back and be honest with a guy who is a fan favorite, and that's fine. Keith is a nice solid top 3 or 4 player but his best days are behind him.
Saying goodbye is hard to do but their comes a time when you have to wake up and move on.
Gustafson isn't getting moved , he is 5th in the league in scoring that is hard to find in a defensemen.
Murphy highly unlikely he gets moved
Dalstrom gets resigned
Keith and Seabrook are still here
That means Stan has 1 opportunity to find a defensemen in free agency who is cap friendly and can play topm4 defenseman role.
Johki will probably come back up next year and maybe boqvist.

I think Keith is still our #1 and probably a #2/3 for the next ~2 years. I bet he will play better once he has some motivation to do so! I wouldn't move him unless I got a massive return (which isn't going to happen). We really don't need production from him since our Forwards + Gus have been lighting it up.
Stan has made some good trades this year and is actually positioning the team quite well. Joki will be playing with the team next year as the #1. Boquist will come up in 2 years and hopefully be our #2/3. Strome + Cat will resign for around 6x6 (a little bit more or less). Kane will be kane and hopefully Toews continues his resurgence.
We just need a defensemen and I'm sure Stan is actively searching. Another option could be Jacob Trouba. It would probably cost us a lot though. Would you give up Boquist?! Something to consider. |

I'm down for that...then some other guys can maybe slot in more naturally. Plus I think an offseason of training for Joker and natural maturation has him coming back next year and maybe grabbing a top 4 role and not letting go. |

I keep reading that Carolina is looking for C scoring depth, AND they have a plethora of solid D-men. This is a perfect give and get for both teams looking to upgrade this season and next.
Anisimov(Please waive) + Forsling for Brett Pesce.
Pesce isn't an offensive dynamo but he's very good in his own end and can move the puck around a bit. This is exactly the type of D-man the Blackhawks need. |

I would like to see Josh Manson on this team. I think he covers what you are asking for. Not sure what it would cost the Hawks, but if I were Stan I would definitely look into it.

I like the sounds of this trade. Even if it would take Chicago to eat 1M per year on AA's contract to make it happen. |

Or you could add another asset, say a 4th round pick |
