Since it's Mcdavid, the league will probably fine Leddy for getting in the way. That was a clear dirty hit. - 2sticks1puck
if somebody hit McDavid like that, Edmonton would demand the United Nations get involved |

Probably a fine and warning. No history - mdw7413
I didn't think that hit was that bad. But, I am always in the minority on these things.

It could have been worse, he didn't drive into his head, more of a clip |

It's a fast game, and the puck just got released. I just think it's hard on players to not finish their checks, and sometimes it can get a little dicey. I certainly understand the need to protect players in hockey and football, but just think it's getting harder for defending players to judge hits with the games moving at the pace they do.
I swear, guys like Mark Messier and Scott Stevens would get thrown in jail if they were playing today.

It's not the most egregious example of a hit,but it also looks like he wanted to deliver that head shot, and he kinda mistimed it. Just the way he skated perpendicular to Leddy and he definitely got the shoulder up. I'd like to see him get a game or two, but since it's McJesus I doubt that happens. |

No doubt. How many games would Mess get for the Modano hit? That would be viewed as Alex Burrows stuff today. |

Oh definitely. Messier used to love make guys eat his elbow pad if they were going in for a hit |

I like what Chytil did last night after getting popped, he did one of those backwards ass checks into a guy. Wasn’t the same guy, bitetto I think, but a retaliatory clean hit nonetheless |

it's guys who played in Messier and Stevens era who are suing the league these days for concussion issues |

Absolutely true. And his hits were devastating. But, one difference is that his pads were actually pads, not armour plated weapons like players are wearing today. Small comfort for some of his victims, I'm sure. But, it can't help that these guys are wearing ridiculous "protection." |

I actually don't mind that. Because liem the Stevens-Kariya hit. Everybody knew, even then Kariya had a concussion and should not been let back out on the ice. It's guys that fought for a living that get no respect from. Like you bare knuckled brawled, of copurse you gonna sustain head trauma. |

So you think guys that had no hockey skills and just ate punches deserve the same umbrella? Of course you do. Norway becoming so soft. Sad. |

Impossible to actually analyze now, but I would be curious to see if the head trauma came more from the fighting (likely) or the big hits they'd throw (also likely) |

They both cause head trauma. Obviously. And I known it's impossible. But people for decades, maybe centuries, have known bare knuckle fighting can cause serious damage. Like you know that before going into it. You have a chocie going into it. Get eblowed from the blind side is a little different. |
