Columbus going for it since they might lose Panarin & Bob come summer? - mdw7413
Exactly the plan. Risky move. |

That post I was kidding about. I know I'm an idiot. But the rebuild started when you axe Girardi and Stepan without replacing them. |

This trade does nothing but help NYR. Sets the market for Hayes, also looks like Panarin won’t be traded now. |

I think with them, they have to be realistic. They are Columbus, no one wants to go there. This may be their only real shot (albeit an outside one) of ever winning the cup. Selling might be the smart thing to do, but even if they did this correctly, would they ever get this close again? It's a legitimate question. |

No, the letter went out because they basically said we are starting a rebuild and pretty much no one is safe. It started last year at the TDL. - mdw7413
IS IT POSSIBLE??????
CAN IT BE???????????
IS IT EVEN REMOTELY POSSIBLE???????????
...that you (frank)ing guys are STILL going back and forth over this?????? |

I know I'm just playing along, but I disagree thats when it started. I think they wanted to stay competitive which they were still trying to do after G and Step. It was like half assed, but I understand thye wanted to stay competitive. You always say a rebuild should be about tearing it down. That they started at the TDL, hell they even asked Hank if we would accept a trade |

Stolen from twitter, but Melnyk gave the ok to this deal because he didn't have to pay airfare giving Columbus was already in Ottawa. |

I don't know. Risky move letting Bob and Panarin walk for nothing because they think they might have a chance at the cup. They win the cup, it looks brilliant, they don't, looks pretty bad |

I don't think you can count that. They tried to win before the great sell off last season. They hoped that Shatty would be better for MCD than Girardi was and hoped Smith would continue his level of play. They also banked on Skjei taking a leap forward. In trading Stepan, they were hoping to recreate the Zib trade. The team was banking on Lias playing effective minutes out of the gate. THey probably figured that he wouldn't have Stepan numbers, but there wouldn't be much of a falloff. It also let them play Hayes with more offensive time (a really good move). Make no bones about it, they tried last year. They didn't admit they needed to sell until the letter. |
