No Yashin isn't, but I'm pretty sure there are still a few years on Dipietro's contract.
the Isles probably had about 10 goalies under contract at one point. Halak, Neuvirth, Gibson, Poulin, 2 AHL goalies, Snow and Dipietro!!!
LOL. Not one of them NHL starter material. |

I will give Ottawa credit for at least getting something back, but they are going to be a dumpster for a long time. Hopefully they can get Lafrenière or Holtz next year to ease the pain. - Glak18
As an Isles fan that saw JT walk for nothing, I agree!!! |

Before Hart came in, all of those guys were starter material for Philly.
Hell, we even have one of those clowns.
I guess technically we had Snow, too. |

Fingers crossed Isles land Stone and can extend him. |

i don't love or hate this trade......i think it's about right.
a likely mid-round 1st
potential for a 2nd 1st rd pick
a prospect that seems like he's a boom or bust
and a guy who's probably a career AHLer
if you just look at the trade alone, without considering the trade to get Duchene....i know it's hard, but those are sunk costs, can't do anything about that......then it's not a bad deal. not a homerun, but not bad.
what i don't understand is why CBJ made this deal.
Duchene is a good player, but CBJ is not a Duchene away from being a contender. i'm not even sure they make him a guaranteed playoff team. acquiring him though seems to give the impression that they're going for it now, meaning that they likely aren't trading panarin or Bob, and will likely lose them for nothing in the offseason.....making them even worse next year.
the team already didn't have a strong farm system, and this trade made it worse. if they keep duchene they lose another first.........but if they let him walk, they gave up futures for nothing.
i just don't understand why they would make this deal |

They are late picks but its still going to generally be 2 good NHL players. You are rarely going to see a trade where a UFA brings in a young NHL player. Its picks and "promising" prospects

Makes total sense to me why CBJ would go for Duchene. He would arguably be there best center. Depth at center is never a bad thing. I have to imagine that CBJ believes they can retain him when making this trade. Though the risk is there. Also leaves us wondering if they have something on the trade front with BOB and Panarin. Or if they are just going all in to try and win right now. |

Kaut and Bowers for top 9 roles then add Timmins and Makar to the D, finally what ever you get in return for Barrie when they trade him. If Colorado had a "Hart" type goalie prospect wow, simply amazing. Maybe they can somehow pry Samsonov from Washington. - Glak18
Has Conor Timmins even played hockey in the last 12 months? |

personally, i see this going two ways:
1. they're going for it now. so they've given up future assets (and htey don't have many) for Duchene, will keep panarin and bob, and basically don't have much else that they can use to acquire anyone else. which means they're going for it with the current roster....imo, the current roster is still just a fringe playoff team, and definitely not a cup contender. i mean, anything can happen once you make the playoffs, but i sure wouldn't put money on them.
so when the off-season rolls around, panarin and bob likely walk away, the core of the team isn't great, and you're likely right back into a rebuild (meaning zero chance duchene re-signs). you've given up futures for a rental who left, you've lost the chance to acquire futures for panarin and bob, which means you're starting a re-build with probably teh worst farm system in the league, and no first rd pick
2. they aren't going for it this year, they trade panarin and bob for futures, meaning they have a better farm system, but a much weaker NHL roster. they aren't good enough to make the playoffs without bob and panarin, even adding duchene, as you aren't getting roster players for the guys you traded away. to me, this signifies they're going into, at the very least, a partial rebuild/re-tool....meaning duchene is unlikely to re-sign....so you traded away futures for him, for nothing.
it seems like an incredibly short sighted deal to me......it reminds me very much of Ottawa dealing for Duchene last year. yes, Ottawa gave up more to get him, but both teams are/were inevitably heading for a rebuild, meaning they're giving up assets for a player who doesn't make them a contender, and is unlikely to re-sign
i'm happy with the trade, but like i said, i don't get how it makes sense for the jackets
like why is a team that's not in a playoff spot, who is likely going to lose their 2 best players (or 2 of the best 3 players), and who already has a weak farm system, trading for players to "go for it now" |
