I'm just looking for ways to free up cash for this summer, I'd throw in a mid pick to move that money

In Hindsight

WE should have traded Hags for the picks - We'd have an extra 3rd right now

WE should have traded Brass for Picks, - We'd probably have a 2nd and 3rd

WE should never have signed JJ - 3.25 of CAP wasted

WE should have just rode out Hunwick and traded Sheary for a mid pick if we didn't really want him long term

WE should look at trading Kessel ASAP

But, really, I just want the 8 million in capspace we wasted in Bjugstad and Pearson..... and the 3.25 on Jack and the 6.8 on Kessel.....

I'd rather have 18 million in Cap than those 2

Give Duchene 8 and Stone 9.5, sign a couple of league minimum vets and we've spent the same $$$

That we'd have a 2nd and a 3rd, or do you prefer Bjugstad?

From last blog: The main thing Maatta could have done was be the guy who played RD. I can understand trying Riikola there, he is young and you want to see what he can do, especially in a game situation. But when you use Johnson there by default, that is where I think he failed. I wasn't at any practices but I am sure Maatta was given a chance to play that spot. I would expect all the guys were looked at.

As far as him carrying the play with bottom six/replacement players; that is difficult, especially when there isn't any offensively skilled guys left. But he was paired with the best of the bunch in Riikola. That is where he came up short, again by not being the guy playing his off side.

Don't think Scuderi II, think Scuderi I. He was a solid top pairing guy, let alone top four, with less offensive skills than Maatta.

I have to think the Duchene trade will force JR to make a more serious move than someone like Simmonds or Chiasson.

Dzingle. Top 6 left wing to play with Geno and Phil. 17 5v5 goals last season and this one.

Duchene, Stone...whoever - At least we could be players in the market

I'm not sure Kessel fits anywhere anymore

With Sid? - No

With Geno? - They haven't looked good, both are kinda too lazy

With McCann? - Seems like a waste

He puts up points, but I'd rather see a large chuck of that money invested elsewhere... someone younger, someone better defensively, and I'd like the assets I could get for him - It's been real, thanks for the cups, but time to move on

Doesn't he have a Full NMC? Also, if so and he waived it for Pens, is it a 1-time deal or does a full NMC have re-fills?

If you can move him for Assets, then take that money and sign a guy who puts up slighly less than a PPG, but is way better defensively and younger is it a good move?

Look at the Patriots model

Sell high on players, move a guy a year early rather than a year late... Seems to work for them

A) Riikola isn't the best of the bunch. Oleksiak and Ruhwedel are legitimate bottom pairing defensemen. Riikola is replacement level and has been Olli's most common line mate this season.

B) Pretty much every single defenseman struggles on their offside. I guess Maatta could have marched into Sullivan's office and demanded that he play out of position for the sake of mentoring Riikola, but, like, who would do that? Everyone hates playing out of position and it would occur to almost no one that playing their off position would benefit the team. And most coaches when deciding who to play out of position will decide to maximize their better players and keep them in their natural position as a damage control element.

Trade clause and you aren't getting a UFA with that production for 6.8m

Patriots do that to their depth and complimentary players. They don't do that to their high end players. They've kept Brady beyond the point that it was technically smart to, they've held onto Gronk despite his injury problems, they've held onto Edelman, they held onto Welker until he broke down, Hightower's been there for quite a while, Bruschi was a straight up career Pat.

The Pats don't get rid of stars while they're still producing at a star caliber level. Only core players that really comes to mind that the Pats let go of in their prime were Aquib Talib, and Dion Branch. Talib walked for more money than the Pats could afford and Branch held out and forced a trade. Would hardly call either situation "selling high".

I'm with you. Especially important given the cap space Sid, Geno, Letang and Kessel occupy and the fact they are all over 30. Kessel is the odd man out for me.

He has a 10 team no trade clause.

I'd take Stone at 9.5m and the assets you get a trade over Kessel for 6.8m.

PIT is trading Kessel for picks and the picks are being flipped for Stone.
