What if "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts
O'Regan is a tweener and a UFA to be. - sabresfan69
The guys you want to trade for that fit your parameters almost certainly cost an impactful roster player going the other way, plus more, and very few teams are completely out of playoff contention. That's why the offseason has the much larger chance of a deal like that happening. |

Yep. TDL will be very quiet for the Sabres. It’s more likely no moves are made, than a major deal for this team. Offseason is a possibly for something significant, but that too is far from a certainty. |

This argument has going on for quite some time on the site. I agree with what you are saying though. |

As an RFA to be, what kind of contract does Rodrigo get next year. Certainly a raise from the league minimum. |

He hasn’t been good lately, at all, but I think today he played pretty well. |

He’d likely pout about it. He’s stayed up and seen the ice all year no matter how he’s played. Entitled. Probably spends all his money on avacado toast too. |

It's a good question. I have no clue how they value him. He's arb eligible, but is only on pace for about 28 points. 715k Qualifying offer.
Arb is a nuisance, so they could go the Wilson route and not qualify him, but then sign him. Probably a similar deal to Wilson in that case.
He might just sign his QO.
A longer term deal seems very unlikely. If I had to guess, I'd go with the Wilson deal, 2 yr @ about 1m.

With Okposo out and O'Regan up, there really isn't a RW to call up.

I still think he absolutely meant what he said the first time. But that it was in the heat of the moment after a brutal loss, and people say poop in those situations, and it was forgiven. |

I'll say it again, as a fan of the Blue Jackets, I have no issues with what they are doing. They are attempting to win a playoff series for the first time in franchise history. That is more important, especially to their fans, than loading up for a rebuild.
It seems to have re-invigorated them, too, because they have looked excellent since the Duchene trade. That team could be dangerous in the playoffs if teams take them for granted and if Bobrovsky is even average, they can make a run.
As far as today's games, Toronto beat Montreal, which we needed, and Pittsburgh only got 1-point. Carolina is going to make the playoffs at this rate, so we need Pittsburgh and Montreal to fall out. Washington has looked shaky all year, too.
We needed that 10-game win streak now, not in November but if we can play like we have the past two games, we might squeak in.
We absolutely need a hockey trade right now, IMO, we should make a run at Trouba to shore up the defense.
Going into next year, and I am going to hate myself for saying this, but I think Wilson/Larsson/Girgensons is a perfect 4th line and we should keep all three. Our middle-6 needs a lot of work. Rodriguez can stay as long as he is our 3C and I can't see Sobotka being on the team next year in any capacity. Okposo needs to retire or go on LTIR, regardless, he did nothing for us this year. Pominville shouldn't be back, so that's an entire line we need to figure out. Tage can stay on the third line, Olofsson should be with the big club next year, sign a FA and we need just a couple more pieces to flank Mittelstadt with.
O'Reagan looked good today. I would like to see him get a chance to ride out the year up here.
I think if we add one more big piece to the middle-6 and to the defense, we can ride with our current goaltending duo again next year and not have to worry about them standing on their heads. |

As long as you respect the Blue Jackets when the ship goes down and all they have is the 2019-2020 playoffs all the power to you sir. I agree with adding to the middle 6 and improving the team as well. Just think the deadline is when GM’s get stupid. Let the cards fall where they lay. I prefer a top 10 pick, but hey if they win 10 straight it’s not like I won’t root for them in the playoffs. I think they are better off losing out and addressing the issues in the offseason but I respect your opinion. |

No need to say this. Everyone knows. You wouldn’t shut up about your boy. Since day one.
Sam is a rare Sabre who has actually earned his salary this year. Along with Dahlin, Skinner and ERod. |

Even if he doesn’t significantly improve, or finish strong or have a good training camp, there still might not be a better option on the third line wing than TT. |

Why would Winnipeg trade Trouba now?
They're a strong cup contender and they're trying to make a big trade, i.e. Stone.
Trading Trouba would weaken them, unquestionably, unless the deal would be centered around Risto for Trouba. |

Trouba has made clear he wants out.
I would offer them McCabe, Beaulieu, St. Louis 1st.
They have some of the best defensive depth in the league as it is. If they are in on Stone, they can flip the 1st we send them to Ottawa and still make out ahead in the deal.
Why they would trade him now is because they don't want to lose him for nothing. We trade for him and offer him a max deal. Of course, it would have to be a handshake agreement to give up that much for him but let's not act like he's untouchable. |
