The trading first round picks is always subjective. Have mentioned before, the 2019 draft isn’t as deep as recent years. There’s a drop off of talent around the 20th pick.

As I’ve said on @BTBHockey a few times my drop off based on very early evaluations is around 15. Don’t feel the need to hold those Blues and Sharks picks so tight.

Said the same things about the 2014 draft as well. There are good players to be found everywhere. Good players that can be developed.

The prospects involved in the Duchene trade were drafted in the 3rd and 6th rounds.
Having picks/using them matter.

This is true. But of course
there were two first round picks involved , beyond the prospects.

And some listed Abramov as their #1 prospect.
on the prospects the sens got in the Duchene trade:
(1) Davidsson (CBJ 6th round/2017) is a 1997-born RW with excellent vision & drafted as a double overager. Plays for a young, up-tempo squad in Djugardens. Decent skills; very good speed but not an A-lister. Turns 22 in 3 weeks. More playmaker than finisher
(2) Abramov is an undersized puck wizard who put up big numbers for Gatineau so Sens must be familiar with him. Went high in the 3rd round in 2016 -- a draft Ottawa did not have a 3rd & traded their 2016 2nd (J. Dahlen) to Vancouver in the Burrows deal. Good balance and shifty.

He will be here on trade dead line day and bring nothing to the table. - SABRES 89
I will bring the popcorn. I don't recall anyone sayin he was coming here. Just mentioned they asked about him.
Botts get smart. Send Skinner (50% salary retain) to Toronto for a 1st and a prospect. Let him know what he will be offered on July 1st from us.
Toronto cannot resign him, and he can go chase a cup this year.

There is a very large risk trading Skinner
Sure Toronto can't afford him, but there are plenty of other teams that could.
I understand what you're saying but it's a huge risk

Are the Sabres winning the cup this year?
Then who the (frank) cares who wins. Better your team. Don't have such a 1970s approach towards hockey.

Agreed. Sabres would lose the ability to sign for 8 years too correct? Sabres can't lose that leverage.

Duchene to CBJ. I thought our “insider” was saying Sabres were gonna get him 😂😂. What other poop is he gonna throw to wall by Monday to see what sticks to keep his “insider” status 😂😂. - Alex the Great
No one ever said the Sabres were "getting" Duchene. They said they heard his name being mentioned, but how you get from there to "definitely trading for him" I haven't the foggiest. Reading comprehension, try it.

I'd comment, but I think Stripes covered it. On top of that, TSN reported the Sabres had "interest".
