a fringe playoff team that may be going all in and risk losing all 4 of these guys if their 2 and the other 2 do not sign
and to make it worse, depleting draft picks as quick as tim murray
imagine the backlash if they hold the 8th spot and get bounced early by tampa
then again if they can get the 3rd seed in the division they could do some damage
tough call - homiedclown
Yet half of the posters on this board are ready to build the guy a shrine since he’s going all in on the playoffs. I wonder if they make “2018-2019 Playoff shirts” cause their GM is betting the house on an Ace High with a potential flush on the table. Columbus has good players and won’t be terrible next year but with no prospect pipeline, no picks, and potentially losing Panarin, Bob, Duchene that team is gonna be medicore for years to come unless they hit a home run in Free Agency.
I wonder how many seasons to come we're going to listen to whining about a specific trade. Ffs. - Powerslave
Like I said earlier. We are going to win draft day, the Sabres will have the best prospect pool in the league once again. The same people crying about missing the playoffs this year won’t even blink an eye at it in two years when we are perennial contenders. The WJC will be an extension of Sabres development camp with the amount of guys we’ll have there. Thompson will be a 15-20 goal scorer on our third line when he has consistent linemates and fully developed.
The only thing that Botts is making me nervous about is if he can get rid of the deadweight on this roster, and sign free agents to reasonable cap and term to allow our prospects to develop properly. Botts has the assets to make us a juggernaut when the Tampa’s and Toronto’s are getting bent over due to the salary cap and lack of prospect depth starting in 2020-2021
Even if we squeak in, we aren’t getting far or addressing the issues. If there is interest, I agree. Move as many as you can and hit reset over the summer. It’s a loaded FA market and the spenders are going a bit
crazy so far leading up to the deadline - lulags
I would stay away from free agents. Build from within or make trades for players under contract. Name a free agent that Buffalo has signed that has been solid? I can’t think of any.
With Beaulieu & Hunwick playing lately,
and playing decently,
and a number of teams pulling defensemen off the market bc they’re in the playoff race now (StL, Philly, etc)...
i could see teams willing to trade a mid-round pick for them
Trading Hunwick makes us send a 3rd to Pitt instead of a 4th though
Idk about Sheary... maybe?
Can’t see anyone wanting Wilson
But yeah, i agree in general...
sell what we can
I’d keep half of Sobatka &/or Scandella to get them moved - jdfitz77
why not keep Wilson?...he may fetch a 6th at best and he's worth more than that to this team right now
The Don you told me I was unreasonable for not liking the ROR trade.
I am unreasonable for wanting Botts to improve our team at the deadline?
Does that not mean you are happy with the ROR trade?
What part was unreasonable?
If you criticize someone for not liking the ROR trade then I would say its reasonable to assume you like the ROR trade because what kind of person would crticize someone for something they don't like either

i don't know about anyone else but i'm tired of the "wait 'til next year" approach and don't care if they get smoked in the first round...i'm actually looking forward to a tampa/buffalo matchup as they've got the beginnings of a rivalry going

But mortgage the future to possibly make it to 8th?

Don’t get me wrong, I miss playoff hockey desperately, and LA squeaked in a few years ago and won it all. I only want to dump if the crazy offers come in
