Columbus just picked up Adam McQuaid - EbonyRaptor
What's the history of teams that "win" Trade Deadline Day? |

Columbus just picked up Adam McQuaid - EbonyRaptor
2 more 2019 picks going the other way. Is there any reason now for the Jackets' management to attend the 2019 daft? |

So in 2021 they MAY have enough to sign one impactful FA.
Awesome. - Return of the Roar
That depends on your definition of impactful. The Hawks don't need to go after a 9-11 million dollar player. We just need more depth and to rebuild the blueline a bit more. |

Agreed - although I do think they need to come up with a high-end d-man to compete again. Tough to do with the UFA route, and through trades. |

The cap space available to extend Cat, Strome and others will be affected by a bunch of unknowns at the time - not the least of which will be other roster moves Stan may make. If AA is traded and replaced with someone making less than $4.5M there will be more cap space to play with, etc. Yes having the cap space to resign Cat, Strome and others is important but there are too many moving parts to be certain what is or isn't possible. |

Bichell should not have gotten 4mil after his huge playoffs, taking a team friendly bridge deal, being awesome in the locker room and the single only big body/physical presence they had?
Clowe signed for 5mil. Clarkson over 5mil. Bickell signed for 4mil and was playing thru MS. Even his last year here when they won the cup vs TB, he was a physical force playing thru pain.
But keep the narrative going that Bickell at 4mil was somehow "overpaid". Dude earned his paycheck thru his entire Chicago career - PatShart
Hey Pat, respectfully disagree I just didn't like the deal. Regardless of his medical history which was unknown at the time. You certainly make good points as always. But he could have been bought out that summer (2015). |

After sending their 2019 4th & 7th round picks to New York in exchange for Adam McQuaid, the Columbus #BlueJackets now have only 2 picks remaining in the upcoming Draft.
3rd RD pick (there own)
7th RD pick (acquired from CGY) |

Oh how I do much not want either of those veterans. Hamilton is ok I suppose but I am uncomfortable with him. He gets moved by each team - never sticks around long. I get that he is a loner but we do not need his salary.
Just keep Murphy instead. Faulk .....please just to have a veteran. He is offensive and we have lots of kids close to NHL......like the kids in Rockford, Beaudin and Mitchell close too. Faulk is just a bridge until the kids come along. I would rather go with Gus, Koekkoek, Murphy, Keith, Seabrook and a Rockford kid with Dahlstrom as depth. No need to add Faulk. He is not to good defensively. - jhawk59
Faulk has been very good is young and cost controlled. Dougie is a tremendous talent and would be great. Either player is a massive upgrade over anything on the roster or in the pipe.
Murphy flips to the left where he carried Seabrook and they are fine.
You're incorrect about either player. |

Which is fine. My only hope for the TDL was Bowman to do no harm. - Elbows15
We should start calling him Dr. Stan and remind him his oath is to do no harm. |

Damn Columbus is going for it - BetweenTheDots
McQuaid is going for it? They have no choice, though. They have no picks for the next two seasons. FA who aren't going to sign. Or they are going to overpay the ones they traded to acquire. |

So do you move Panarin or Bob for a significant draft pick haul? I read into that being the move or the opposite, they are loading up to try and win it all. |

Another Columbus trade. I'll be rooting for them this playoffs. - RedRevenge
I will be rooting for them to get knocked out in the first round. I hate to see teams get rewarded for trying to buy the Cup.
Also Panarin will be more tempted to stay if they win the Cup. |

Who is the impactful UFA you think they should sign this offseason? How much, and what term will you do? Will that get it done? When it handcuffs them on the back end of that deal, will you promise to come here and support Stan's decision? - mohel
They CAN'T sign ANYONE impactful for two years unless they give up to get, just leaving a different hole somewhere else.
Too much money and inflexibility given to too many players' contracts, and the lack of impactful player development over the last eight years combine to do this team in until some of the bad deals simply expire.
The only hope for change is patience and that more of the prospects in the pipeline can accelerate their progress. The math says a few might make it - in another year or two.
This is why I just don't see the value in playing themselves out of high draft pick position. They are who they are. Accept it, and move on in the right way.

Ahhh, beg to differ. There is very little cap space now or next year for sure.
Next year, if no changes, Hawks have nine forwards signed for $36.370MM (so need four more), four D signed for $17.464MM, (need three more), and two goalies in CC and Delia for $7MM combined.
This assumes losing Kunitz, Kruger and Ward, with Forsling, KooKoo, Dahlstrom, Perlini, Kampf and Sikura as RFAs. If they all are kept and only get the minimum 10% bump, that's $6MM to keep them all.
That's almost $61MM with a need to sign five more players, or $67MM if you re-up the RFAs, AND reserve enough room to extend ADB and Strome.
Biggest questions are:
What are ADB and Strome worth to extend?
$5-6MM each at least I think, so there goes $10-12MM of your space with no one new added.
What will the upper limit be next year and the year after?
Bettman hints at $82MM for next year, who knows about the following, so if we just work with $82MM as next year's limit, and all of the pending RFA's get signed at minimum deals, that's $15MM in space BEFORE re-signing ADB and Strome.
What are they honestly going to upgrade via free agency with only $4MM in cap space when top six/top 4 guys START at $6MM each? - Return of the Roar
If Strome is a 60-70pt player next year and Debrincat is 35 ish goals again probably closer to 15 combined. |

No, he isn't. He isn't a banger by any means but he plays much differently these days. - Elbows15
Well we'll see what happens next year and so on now that he's got his big contract. Glad the Hawks didn't give it to him. |

Dzingel played at Ohio State so he's probably the only one that Re-signs. Panarin is still gone. Duchene probably gets overpaid by whatever team loses out on Panarin on 7/1. I think they have as good a shot as anyone to beat Tampa with their new additions. They still might trade for Mark Stone I read.... |

Roar, why do we keep hearing they have money to spend in FA if they are so strapped? Not questioning but looking at the salary outlook from your understanding. |

With one hour to the deadline, Vegas and Ottawa were working hard on a Mark Stone deal. Nashville was in there, too, and I think Calgary circled back. But the Golden Knights appeared to be the favourites. Let's see. |

Not one hawks trade 😨 - HJULLASTER
The good news is that Carolina still has not snagged a CTR to help them on offense(Aho is the only offensively contributive center on their roster).
I still think Stan sends package like AA + Beaudin for Brett Pesce.

The UFA dman market is mostly #4-7 type guys and lots of them overpaid. I think you are right about trades. I wouldn't be surprised if Stan might try to land another good deal on a former 1st rounder who isn't playing up to par lately. I'm just glad they don't have to cut good players to get under the cap right now. |
