Lazerus has a quote from Bowman on taking big swings at the TDL:
"There are two sides to that. You know, rarely does that work. I think the one time, well Handzus and Vermette, so it did work those two years for us. But, most often, it doesn't work. There are two sides to that. There's a lot of deals made today, but only one team that is going to win. Some teams didn't do anything so it could be one of those teams. Half of those teams are going to lose in the first round. There's always two sides to it. But you know you can't necessarily wish you were somewhere else. This is where we are and we're excited about the fact that we've shown progress and that the future is bright."
Those last two sentences are crucial in my eyes. We had 8 awesome years, and there is a consequence to being that good for that long (under these conditions). I'm very happy that they didn't drop a bunch of prospects for supposedly immediate help. |

Marion Hossa was drafted 12th overall in 1997. Just sayin. You can get a guy and not draft in the top 5. - hereismike1
Back then there was a tendency to focus on North American players so the Hossa's and Datsuk's slid further than they should have. |

Here is the trade summary for the 8 Western conference teams currently in playoff positions.
C1. Winnipeg - K.Hayes, M.Hunnwick, N.Beaulieu
C2. Nashville - W.Simmonds, M.Granlund
C3. St. Louis - J.Kyrou, M.Del Zotto
P1. Calgary - O.Fontenberg
P2. San Jose - G. Nyquist
P3. Vegas - M.Stone
W1. Dallas - M.Zuccarello, A.Cogliano, B.Lovejoy
W2. Minnesota - SOLD M.Granlund
Stone is the best player in that bunch but every team except Minnesota helped themselves. - EbonyRaptor
Nyquist is a sneaky good acquisition for San Jose's already high power offense. Nyquist has 49 points in 62 games on dogpoop Detroit. They only parted with a 2nd and 3rd round pick, too. |

Gudbranson stinks, anothet one of Dale's early 1st round selections. His role will be tp beat the crap out of anybody who touches Crosby. - RickJ

Thought the Kings would dump more salary, unless they dump in the offseason, they can't afford Panarin |

The salary is attached to some guys who are past their best if use by date plus they have some decent term left. |

LA potentially adding both Panarin + Hughes this summer??? I've said it before, but LA being a good team is good for the league. Hopefully they rebound soon. |

As Elbows says way too much dead weight with term, Brown, Kovalchuck (who they wanted to move), Carter, Phaneuf all with NTC's (sound familiar), a declining Quick, and will be looking for a new coach. Actually a perfect situation for Q, except the team as currently constructed cannot play with pace. Kopitar and Doughty are still elite, their young players haven't stepped up, and even Toffoli has regressed. Really like Luft though, he will score goals at the NHL level.

They have 17 players signed for next year with a cap hit of $70 million, they cannot afford a $10 mil. forward unless they get rid of a couple of the above.

No way Jose. Now that the Hawks are back in the lose for Hughes derby - Hughes will be the RW on the Cat-Strome line. |

Yep, cap hits for Kopitar/Doughty add up the same as T&K and although they don't have an overpaid Seabrook - they do have overpaid guys like Phaneuf, Brown, and Kovalchuk so they're no more in position to add a $9M+ Panarin then the Hawks are.

I remember when Stan signed him and this board ripped Stan to pieces over it. How quickly we forget... - RedRevenge
Tbf, he's signed for $1.2M/yr...it's the .2 I have a problem with and find particularly egregious.
My favorite TDL moment was the Kyle Quincey sweepstakes. Stan didn't get him in and people were losing their minds here. Good times. |

translation: "we like our future teams" last in the league in pk, 1st in GA, 1st in high danger chances against and 2nd in shot on goal against...
its been said numerous times: they come back with this strategy and this corp of bluelines and and you can (frank) the furture looks bright: they need at least 3 dmen who can actually play |

I understand, I would think if Seabs and Keith decided to waive, it would be in the offseason where they would have time to adjust. - LAHawk ...
i think so...what player wants to move in march to new city and team...very few and if you are as decoarted as those two...you have more than earned to call your next home...
