Can't believe I am pinning to keep Murphy, but here we are. I couldn't stand him last year, but I've seen a lot to like about him this year. Not perfect, but certainly heading in the right direction. Kid is still young with a ton of experience to go w/ that youth. |

Cheveldayoff was with Blackhawks as Assistant GM when Hayes was drafted. Obviously not tainted by his decision to not sign with them. |

End all tanking - and talk of tanking.
Change the draft to go to the wheel. - StLBravesFan
Interesting thought posed by some in MLB, to avoid teams tanking by trading off assets. Give the highest draft to the team that misses the playoffs with the BEST record. 2nd best gets 2nd pick, and so on. Help teams that play hard to the end and just miss.
I’d like to see that in the NHL. |

WoW, interesting idea. I think there ARE exceptions and sometimes teams end up in the toilet for non-dubious reasons. Perhaps some type of modified system would work to protect teams who finish in the bottom for LEGIT and not tanking reasons. |

And they have a coach who is incapable of putting a structured system in place, making the players accountable or disciplined to take advantage of Hayes, the team's star players and the team's depth.

When you're trying to win the whole damn thing one can't be petty about things not working out the way you wanted them to. |

Nice write up as usual Justin.
Any chance Forsberg gets traded away to some team that wants/needs another goalie. We seem to have a logjam at that postion once Crawford gets back from his concussion. Does Lankinen go back to Indy when Delia goes back to Rockford? I keep hearing that Vegas might need a back-up since they aren't sold on Subban. I know we wouldn't get much for Forsberg, maybe a fourth or fifth rounder. |

From AHL Communications:
A player must be on the AHL team roster at 3 PM EST today in order to be eligible to be sent down from the NHL any time thereafter for the rest of the season.
Are the Hawks planning on mak8ng any paper transactions to make anyone eligible for the Ice Hogs in the AHL playoffs? |

Do you mean all non playoff teams get the same chance at getting the first overall? - paulr
No - draft positions are determine going out 32 years (this was a proposal for the NBA):
http://grantland.com/the-...ttery-hello-to-the-wheel/
Draft position does not depend either on wins and losses, or bouncing ping pong balls - each team drafts in each position once each 32 years, each team knows it's draft position for each year,
No tanking, no "Ewing to the Knicks" conspiracy theories, no "rewarding" Edmonton with 4 overall #1s in a short number of years, no rewarding failure....
If the Cup winner is scheduled to have the top pick in the draft two weeks later - so what - luck of the draw. It all evens out. |

Mike Kelly:
Huge add by the Jets getting Kevin Hayes. Big-body, 2nd line centre who drives possession, can put up points and is great defensively. The Jets have struggled defensively this season, Hayes will help. Terrific add. Potential to be a real difference maker for them.
From me: (frank)ing hilarious since the Hawks have given up 55 more goals then the Jets |

Yep - brought up Forsberg on the-rink podcast last week: https://twitter.com/TheRi...tatus/1098807196446543872
I can see him getting moved if someone was looking. |

Like Edmonton - with 3 #1s in a row and 4 in 6 years - and STILL can't get into the post season.
Can't keep rewarding failure. |

Yep - tweeted this earlier this morning.
Expect to see Delia, Dahlstrom, Sikura, Forsling, Kampf... and maybe even Perlini to be sent down as a paper move. |

Fellas, looking at the move by Buffalo for Montour, he would of been perfect for the Hawks and I'm sure we could have put a substantial package together to acquire him for our back end. |

If we were playoff bound, by all means.
But because of where we stand now I would rather hang on to our assets and go shopping on July 1. Acquisitions cost dearly at the TDL so if you are not a contender why participate? |
