How about something like:
Florida receives: Anisimov, 2019 6th round pick
Chicago receives: Brassard, 2019 4th round pick, 2020 3rd round pick
In this situation, Chicago moves AA and clears cap space. They get Brassard on trial for the rest of the season. He’s not much of an improvement in AA but he does have better offensive upside, so if he shows something the rest of the way playing with someone like Saad, maybe you re-sign him this offseason. Otherwise, no harm no foul and you have the added cap space this summer to seek alternative options.
In Florida’s case, they get another year of control of AA and have the possibility of pairing him with Panarin again this summer. - TommyHawk
You'd have lost the ability to trade AA in the summer for something with more permanent value than a 4th and a 3rd. |

How much value would he have this summer though?
Centers usually have more value at the deadline as teams are always looking for more depth up the middle.
This summer, he’d be a 3C on an expiring contract. Not sure he’d be able to return much more than two mid-round draft picks. |

Al-
Interesting deadline with so many teams feeling they have to be in all in because the window with their current group is closing. There could be some very good players available this summer for teams that have or can create cap space. - mrpaulish
This would be a good use of the cap space this year and probably next. Take a bad contract and get a nice piece of candy for doing so. But it is a bit late for that - the team trading such a contract is doing so in order to make a trade today with another team (Ott, perhaps). |

Hey Matt - not sure which teams. It's been reported by a couple beat guys that Hayden has had some interest.
I wouldn't think the return would be very big. - Justin Lowe
I would keep him 4th line physical forward something hawks do not have a lot of and are lacking in a big way. |

Hard to argue with you there, Scott. |

Brassard also a UFA. Why would they spend anything on a UFA at the most expensive time of the year when they could simply wait until 7/1 and have at it for free?
EDIT just saw Ty’s post and that makes sense. - Marlowe
only if we move AA the other way - free up salary, same concept as Duclair/Panik trade - we rid ourselves of Panik salary hit 1 year early - rid AA salary hit 1 year early. Sometimes a trade is about the salary cap impact and not a hockey trade

Ah, cap space. The Hawks don't have a cap space issue this year or next. Unless they go nutty on a UFA signing - which will be too much money and too much term for a player who is about to suck. Then they will have cap problems and will have trouble signing Strome, Cat, et al. |

I did the math on the current cap space of 4.5M per CapFriendly) that equates to 87 beers, 12 soft serves and a plate of Nacho's at current UC prices. |

I am open to Derick Brassard only if he agrees to sign an extension that is reasonable. Moving on and making the defense a priority, I would like to see them acquire a player like a Dougie Hamilton, Adam McQuaid, or a Josh Manson, today if possible if the stars align.
Then moving forward to July 1 if he is not re-sign I would like to see them make Eric karksson their number one Priority. If he hits the market. |

Well, at least that's a plan on what to do with the cap space! |

I am a big fan of EK, but few moves would be dumber. The cost + his skill set just don't work. Hawks need a more Defensive D-man, one who isn't going to get 10 million a year as well. |

Karlsson - you mean they guy that's starting to break down a tad more often, and may do so in the future?
Predicted HHR post three years from now if the Hawks sign him - "Dis guy is always missin' da games, any GM other dan dat idiot Stan woulda know dis guy was near de end of da line." |

Brassard hasn't been good for at least 2 seasons. Why sign him? You want to sign a guy who will be in 30's for most of his contract? |

If i was Winnipeg gm i would trade lanie and prospects for stone. Lanie is one dimensional stone a complete player. Just an idea. Trade proposal
Hawks send a 5th to florida for bassard and prospect or a 2019 3rd then flip bassard to vegas for a 2nd or keep him or to carolina for fogle and 3rd |

So, why wouldn't Vegas just call Florida on the blower, and offer a 4th for Brassard? |

I thought he was still overseas, but maybe they just held his rights? I don't have the interest to actually look it up... |
