Okay, you've all convinced me. This was a good trade by Fletcher. Hartman is what the Flyers need and third round picks are valuable. - Scoob
It was a decent trade. It wasn't great, it wasn't horrible. Hartman is a solid bottom-6 player who will provide secondary scoring and can play on the PK. He's a useful NHL player. The 3rd rounder is a crapshoot. |

Let's be honest guys.
Fletcher has multiple offers today of Simmonds that included superstars and multiple first round picks, but he was holding out for Ryan Hartman. - jmatchett383

What changed? I thought Simmer was UFA this summer? How do we think we could get a large haul that immediately makes our team better? The top UFA out there was Stone. He got a 2nd, a good prospect, and a depth forward. We got a young NHL player with promise and, essentially, a 3rd round pick. Trades happened today that affected Fletcher's approach. It was reported that his asking price was a 1st and a prospect/NHL player. He would have made the deal if a team came close. We also may not know how Simmer's NTC affected the deals. Supposedly Calgary made an offer but they were on Simmer's NO list.
Overall, a solid trade. Hartman replaces Simmer on 3rd line (but not PP) and offers a better overall game then Simmer. We will never be able to replace the leadership, desire, balls, etc. of Simmer but I think this was a good trade. - cdearth23
This will make everyone feel better, the Flyers could of traded for these defensemen...

So logically, since Fletcher didn't convince someone that Simmonds is worth 20 consecutive first round picks, he's a bad GM. I mean, if he was any good at his job, he should have been able to convince someone of that, right? |

I’m hoping Hartman can kill penalties. I would like for G to be used less on the PK.

Yet in the real world that is what the value of Simmonds was worth. - opeth_pa
No in the real world that is what Fletcher settled with. You dont know what other offers were out there. Maybe Fletched scoffed at a better one hoping to get more but failed. We all saw lesser players get more return than Simmonds |

I mentioned last week Patrick’s line needed more speed and more of a finisher. Simmonds brought good stuff just didn’t really fit to make a real good 3rd line. Just hope Hartman plays well and adds a little of both.
Like the flyers traded simmer to a familiar coach, that is respect of sorts |

Most of Nashville's forwards are considered role players on other teams - Glak18

I personally would have liked to get a 1st and B or better prospect for Simmonds. I don't know if that was ever offered. I'm going to assume that Fletcher didn't intentionally take the worst offer that was presented, and that this offer was the best available.
But yeah, let's burn Fletcher at the stake for not bringing Mitch Marner back in return. |

Looking at stats quickly looks like he could be a serviceable bottom 6 guy. Do we know if he works pk for the preds? |

Oh I agree, that's the whole point of picks. When was Brayden Point drafted? People who think those picks are worthless are clueless. |

According to his ATOI stats, he does not, but I'm sure he'll be given every opportunity to do that here:

Before Simmonds was traded here his stats at the same age as Hartman is now (24) was very similar to that of Hartman's. Not saying Hartman will develop into a player of Simmonds caliber when he was scoring 30 goals but he is still young and heading into his prime years as a player. If he can be a solid pk guy who chips in 15 to 20 goals a year I'm fine with that. Simmonds has 11 goals at even strength this season out of his 16 goals and Hartman has 10 goals all at even strength. Not as bad of a deal as you think if you actually look into the stats. |

But Hartman isn't a top-6 forward or current 1st round pick. |
