I’m plenty happy with this trade. I’m not happy we didn’t get their other assets BUT they received a six year younger player with similar even strength production. Yes it’s not over the moon but they also got a player that can help them push for the POs this year and is cost effective. |

Okay, you've all convinced me. This was a good trade by Fletcher. Hartman is what the Flyers need and third round picks are valuable. - Scoob
3rd round picks are as valuable as the scouting department seriously tho, Ghost. |

Fit is an issue for Philly, Hartman might fit better.
Also think Simmer needed this change - wcorvette
Horrible trade day for Flyers. Simmonds return kind of OK with a 3rd rounder and Hartmann in best case top 9 forward.
But no 2nd trade is huge surprise.
No Raffl Gudas or Elliott trade
Expected at least one to be traded.
Raffl better then Weise and Weal in Montreal
Gudas most consistent dman and a righty
Elliott clearly a rock solid back-up fit again |

The fact is everything has value, value changes depending on how it is used. Maybe the Flyers use that pick in another trade... |

this doesn't make sense to me. why wouldn't you want to get something for him? Hartman is making like 875K and is a RFA. he isnt going to alter the flyers off season plans, hartman is also only 24. - nastyflyergirl
He was also traded last year deadline for a 1st + essentially so he’s had some value as recent as last year regardless what the market was this year. I think he’s a player we can expect as much upside as say Laughton and am not disappointed thats what the return was for simmer given the situation. |

Actually you said
Brayden match Point
Agreed, flyers have plenty of picks and assets to make a bigger trade.
People get stuck on % of making NHL if it is 3rd. This is the new NHL built on speed and skill, with kids who are being raised to eat right, work out, private trainers.
Flyers need to hit on a 3rd |

In looking at some of the deals that were made for forwards by some of the teams that were supposedly linked to Simmer, we can see the thinking;
Boston sent a 2nd (2019) and 4th (2020) to NJD for Johanson. (NO)
Jets got Matt Hendricks for a 7th and Jets get Lindholm for Petan. (NO)
SJ did a one for one trade. (NO)
Calgary never got a forward. (Curious to see what their offer was)
I have to believe that the Jets wanted Hayes over Simmonds because I think Fletcher would have made this trade;
Jets got Hayes for a first and young forward. That conditional pick only happens if Jets win Cup.
Flyers get Hartman and a 3rd (essentially) for Simmonds.
And Carter Hart was assigned to the Phantoms!!!! - cdearth23[/quote]
actually he wasn't

Flyers need to take a more risky approach in 2nd and 3rd round picks like TB/CHI. Debrincat sticks out as a recent pick we 100% could have made and was choked flyers didnt take the chance, whats he at now 33 goals? |

Get it, get it...Match Point...
Anyway, imagine if last year the Flyers traded their 2019 1st and say German Rubtsov for James Neal at the deadline.
That's basically the Simmonds situation, but reversed. I think people are upset because they can't go yell how the Flyers ripped someone off with an obvious steal like JvR for Schenn. |

So Hart? Myers, Bailey and Knight paper moves to Phantoms so they are eligible for Calder Cup Playoffs? Twitter is unclear... - NC Flyers Fan

I agree, with their forward pool pretty good I think the next couple drafts they need to take big risks in later rounds...high ceiling all about skill players, none of this safe BPA. |

Like I said,I hope he succeeds cause he's awesome but I'm not sure this will happen. I do think he will have a bounce back next year as he fully recovers from that abdominal surgery but I think Simmers best seasons are probably behind him - bulet13
His best years are behind him but that doesn't mean that he is still not a good player. In my opinion Simmonds has been getting stronger physically as the season goes on. He's going to a team where he is familiar with the coach and how he plays and to a team that attacks and forechecks heavily. That's perfect for Simmonds.

This part is my basic summary/opinion of the trade:
I just didn't view moving him - Scoob[Simmonds] today as critical to the success of the team and I don't think the move today improved them. I wouldn't have been upset at all had they not moved him.
i understand your thoughts. i just differ in opinion. i rather see them get something. to me hartman makes the team better next year being they wouldn't have Simmonds next year. |

I hope he does, but if he struggles with one of the better teams in the league and has trouble fitting in there, wish him the best finding a team next year. - Glak18
He scored 24 goals last season playing with a myriad of injuries. He's likely to score 20 or more this season. He'll find a team.

Thanks. I’m hoping Bill will provide clarity regarding Hart. Injury now longer than 10 days...?
Edit: so they are basically saying Hart is not playing in the AHL playoffs and there is no recovery timetable yet for his ankle injury

I have a suspicion the Flyers weren't looking to trade Gudas. How many goalies were traded in the last few days? With some players such as Raffl, the return isn't enough to trade him.

I'm glad they didn't. I think he's the perfect #6 defensemen and should still have a role on this team in the future |

The typical bigger risk small players putting up big the numbers in jrs will become less and less a risk with tampas recent draft record. Gotta think teams are catching on that its worth the risk to draft an undersized player earlier then before whos put up points at every level theyve played. |
