To be fair calling him a 19 goal guy is a bit of a stretch BUT he will be a better ROI in my opinion. If not next year then the next. - coffee junkie
He scored 19 goals his first full season in the NHL, followed with 11 and has a whopping 6 less goals than Simmonds with 10 this year. |

Although a 19 goal scorer who is better at even strength and can play the PK and younger...will take that guy. - Glak18
In the Flyers situation, if Hartman can produce at that level and the cap cost, I would take that guy also. My point is I want more than just a PK role player to say it's an upgrade.

I would hope he can manage at least 4 more goals in the next 20 games. Although he is currently scoreless in 9 or 10 games and 1 in the last 12. |

If we bring back Hartnell in some front office capacity we can officially form the Hart Foundation. Carter, Ryan, Lauren, Scott
Hartnell is obviously Jim The Anvil. |

I hope Hartman is more than a PKer too. I just don’t want to compare him to Simmonds. As you pointed out earlier, there are other parts and factors in the trade—not a true one for one.

Ok this whole semantics thing about upgrading and production replacement is silly.
If Simmonds finished the year with the Flyers and walks. The team gets the 3.9m in cap space and whatever the difference was if they re-signed him.
Simmonds gets traded and they get 2 assets (a roster player and a pick) and still get the same benefit if Simmonds would of played out the season with the Flyers.
Not sure how someone can't say they upgraded no matter what. The whole argument of if you trade someone then the team must replace them with another player with the same or more production is the only way to upgrade, it is actually really silly. The Flyers upgraded their bottom 6 and PK and lost a player who is not producing at their normal strength...the PP. |

I think some people were really looking for a Simmonds trade to bring back and big piece for the future. I think the cap space element is the part of the deal that is going to hopefully do that.

Weighing a trade and the return is not semantics. We already knew that in this trade the Flyers were going to be giving up the best player in the deal. A poster made the statement that if Hartman can play on the PK than he'll be a more useful player. Sometimes a post has a singular focus to it. |

I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Wayne Simmonds looks like his normal self. Peter Laviolette is the guy that made Wayne Simmonds to begin with. If Simmonds isn’t in the crease, you’re not using him properly. Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if he saw an opportunity in a top six role. Playing Patrick and Laughton isn’t going to cut it. This isn’t say say Laughton or Patrick are bad players, they’re just young developing players. In my opinion, Patrick has to become a much better playmaker. |

Fletcher stated that he’s going to take over Simmonds role. I’m guessing he meant at evens which is 3RW. They have different special teams roles |

Hartman being a RFA and being due less salary during the same timeframe we would have considered re-signing Simmonds. Yes. We can’t look at any of the trades alone, but rather what did all the trades/moves do to change the team starting from the fall training camp and moving forward.

That’s going under the assumption that they would’ve resigned him. They aren’t gaining any cap space if they did the deal or not.
I don’t think there’s a ufa available that’s going to change this teams fortunes. I am very leery with ufa. |

Ok I would agree that the Flyers need better players that can play well on the PK than the PP. The Flyers have plenty of PP guys already. |

Depends on what Simmonds does in Nashville, I think there is a good chance Simmonds comes back here. |

This doesn't make any sense. If they don't resign him and he moves either by trade, which he did or walks after the season, the Flyers gain whatever cap space they would've used to resign him to use somewhere else. There is no assumption there.
A player like Panarin could make a huge difference to this team. A lesser player such as Hayes being a center could also make an impact.

1) HArtman is a UFA as well so if he doesnt sign and NSH loses in the 1st round all we get is a 4th in 2020. NOT EVEN A PICK THIS YEAR!
2) Players better or equal to Hartman
Eberle
Stone
Zuccerello
Pavelski
Pominville
Williams
Nyqvist
Silfverberg
Donskoi
B.Connolly
Brandon Pirri
Tanev
Hell someone in our system already could probably match him - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Hartman is an RFA.

IDK. I don’t have any clear thoughts about that yet. If it is still a longer term deal, we are out of the running.
