Ive always been an optimistic fan. even stupidly optimistic. But I look at this team and I see potential. 2 months ago I was ready to accept a run for the #1 pick, but now i want to see them take a swing at the playoffs. I mean why the hell not?!
We still have Kane, We still have Toews. Maybe, just maybe we get hot at the right time. In 2017 the Preds made the cup final from the 8 seed. Its unlikely but possible...

Maybe instead of hearing Pat Foley do his Harry Carey drunken mumble or Kiss *ss Konroyd wax poetic - instead of Eddie O explaiming some diagram of any great play from Koekkoek, just have them imitate a cuckoo clock.
It might even be humorous. I know in some episodes of Hogans Heroes there was a cuckoo clock in Klinks office.

Not to be pessimistic, but not possible with this team. Last in goals given up means not a good team. Nashville was a good team that year, but they had injuries almost all year which kept their point total down. |

Oh I know... but its nice to dream. I'd like to think we get some perfect storm of fortune. I'll root for it, but it wont be a surprise when it doesnt happen... |

so I guess the narrative on Toews this offseason goes from "Can Toews ever be a number 1 center again" to "how long can Toews play at this level". |

Brain fat = Versteeg - jhawk59
The 'cat" did score 2, but man did he make some Versteeg passes in the defensive and neutral zones last night.

Wow that was ugly. 2 points we deserved to lose.
The Ducks have to be the slowest, worst at keeping the puck in the zone team I've seen but they almost beat us.
We looked like we were sleep walking on the powerplay.
Sikura looked like an AHL player out there- coughing up the puck, losing puck battles and taking weak shots. He needs more time in the A.
Dahlstrom was indecisive and not using his size. I hate to say it over the past few games, Forsling has looked like the better one to start since he can join the rush although he is a disaster in our own end. |

He's also 24, may not be a big hitter but good along the boards and gives you a bit more scoring than the guy he's likely replacing (Kruger).
Not you, but I'm curious what kind of scoring the other guy would like to see out of a 4C? - HawkintheD

Strome was terrible tonight. He was lost defensively. Seemed to be fighting the puck a lot.
That whole line needs a crash course on defense. Offensively they are good but oh boy, on the other end. - Elbows15
I know that Strome is getting points and I know that he has a big cheering section but I am glad that he has another year on his ELC contract. I need to see what he brings next year before he gets a new contract.
Hopefully Bowman does not jump the gun by offering a bloated long term deal early on him. A deal we will lament for years. |

You're gonna get games like that. The two over the weekend were games we probably should have won. The Avs for sure, the Stars is a toss-up. Great players show up when needed and that's what happened.

For some reason some smaller players adjust to the NHL right away. Kane, ADB, Johnny Hockey, Shaw are examples. Others like TT, Schmaltz, Sikura are timid players by nature and it takes time for them to figure it out and gain their confidence. Maybe they should have spent more time in the AHL, but I am not sure that playing in the AHL gives them confidence that they can play at the NHL level or helps them to figure out the NHL game.
Even though they list Danault at 6', He initially played small. I think it took him time to figure out the NHL game. He split 3 seasons in the AHL/NHL before finding his groove in the NHL.
I am not thrilled with what I am seeing out of Sikura. I did not like TT or Schmaltz too much either initially. But we may change our mind in the next year or two. |

Good to see them win last night, can they put together another winning streak
Last night Corey was reminded how fast NHL hockey is. Some terrible breakdowns in defensive coverage. Corey had a play that reminded me of Delia, if you play goalie for the Blackhawks this year you are earning your paycheck. |

that Cat is like a breath of fresh air, still so young, as with many Sikura at age 24, how much AHL does he need before he is a lifer there. two years ago I kept hearing is scoring prowess was going to give hawks a lift when his team was eliminated in NCAA. one guy whose starks rising is young big Gravel , goalie with Halifax Mooseheads. From no prospects in goal to several. got to think , one great stopper maybe on way, With CC last contract year next year, and could free mula. Although fingers crossed on Crow to excel here. God we need him |

I understand it a long long shot .But this team is a work in progress .The PP was horrid not long ago ,but look at it now . This team has come a long way in a short time ,and with any luck who knows what the future holds . I for one am optimistic for the future ,maybe not this year but it is moving in the right direction . |

And a new contestant enters the ring.
Thank you for pointing all this out to me. I’ve worked hard to try to make sense to people and particularly the lowest common denominator...people like you for example.
But it looks like there is still work to be done. Henceforth, I will try harder and simplify my posting so that even you can comprehend what I’m trying to say...you have my solemn oath sir. Good day to you. |

Love the optimism, Duff, but one area that hasn't improved is team defense. Crow may help some in that area,, but.... |

Bob Murray is getting a very look at his team...and they are bad. Definately old and slow. Perry back from injury but he looked terrible. The hawks gifted them 3 goals but thats what the hawks do with every game. Defensively they are as much a mess as the hawks.
Hawks have to score 4 or more every game to have a chance. |

Im optimistic as well, i wish they would be better with the puck, turnovers are putting so much pressure on our goalies, and not covering guys in prime scoring areas. This team could ge so good if they can keep opponents to 2 goals a game. |

A lot of posters wanting to trade for Josh Manson, did he even play last night? Actually this is how he has played all year, the Ducks are very disappointed in his play.
