Dude this isn’t Thompson vs. Erod
Erod has been better all around.
I’m pointing out that Erod is not a finisher. He’s a decent playmaking bottom 6 forward. He is not a good goal scorer - sbroads24
Of any bottom six forward, excluding Pominville, he is the best finisher.
That is the depressing reality |

I think the most alarming stat about Ristolainen's +/- is that the next closest players are Sobotka and Thompson with Okposo not too far behind.
-29 to their -14 and -11 respectively.
Ristolainen is on the ice when a lot of goals against are scored. Which means he is bad at the defense.
Ristolainen is a power-play specialist. We absolutely should consider trading him for Taylor Hall. Oh, wait.
Edit: When this team is good, we might need a PP specialist but by that point, Montour and Dahlin will have passed him on the depth chart and he will be mostly useless. |

I have 0 issues with Erod being here in a bottom 6 role. He’s been 2x as good the last 25 games as he was the first 30.
He just can’t be a guy we rely on to score. His production should be a bonus

My only issue with ERod is that anytime he has an ounce of success, people want him on the 1st line. He's an average third liner, when he's playing well.

Rodrigues needs a better finisher than Wilson. I hope Olofsson is working on his 2-way game. Olofsson-Rodrigues-Pominville would be a nasty 4th line
And yes, I am officially for re-signing Pominville - jcragcrumple
That leaves Okposo (and Sobatka if we can’t get rid of him) on line3
So...... |

Trying E Rod at RW1 bc we wanna see Sam on line2 doesn’t mean we think E Rod is a 1st liner
It just means we think he might be good enough to hang with Jack
And we might as well try it out since Pommer isn’t a long term option there
No one would be calling for it if we had more options that were legit |

For 2019-2020,
If the Sabres cannot move Sobotka nor Okposo which I think is probable, then I do not re-up Girgs nor Larry, and use a 4th line of Erod, Sobotka and Okposo for one year ...yes really expensive but that is where they have proved to be most effective at this juncture of their career.
Bring in a 1RW, 2C and 2LW

As bad as he has been, I’d still prefer Thompson on the top line with Jack/Skinner. His skill set fits with them better. |

The hold up is Botterill doing his very best to try and shorten the term, IMO. |

Erod is very frustrating
he has the tools and speed to be a second line player
he has the brains sometimes of an echl player
he tries hard though which is more then I can say for half of our roster |
