The reason for his firing is quite simple. He's too old-school to succeed in today's NHL. Case in point: The lack of ice time given to young players. Way too much time had been given to Smith, Pyatt, Paajarvi, etc.. He consistently favours old 'role player' vets over giving young talent a chance.

Not to mention his antiquated and ineffective systems. He literally made no changes to playing style this entire season. You can't just keep trying the same thing and expecting different results.

I wish him all the best, but he seriously needs to update his approach to the game in order to have success at the NHL level.
