RE: Playoffs. Flyers can make it easily IF they keep winning. People are forgetting the teams that we are competeing with:
1) We still play a decent chunk VS them(MTL, CAR x2, PIT)
2) Lots of divisional play right now so teams we a competing with will lose. We just gotta hope Regulation
3) We do have some tough games coming up(NYI x2, WSH, TOR x2). Points in these games will be a must.
4) CAR and PIT both have a tough schedule as well. CBJ could do us a huge favor and beat PIT twice - xShoot4WarAmpsx
CBJ doesn’t like PIT either. |

Voracek getting cross checked in the crease and whining about a no call, then watching both proverov and hagg ignore devils in the crease while they put rebounds home is precisely the issue this team has.
If this team would punish opponents for entering the slot and take the body instead of the flailing stick check and turning their butts into the opponent against the boards, they would have a lot less goals against.
If this team on offense would go through the slot away from the puck while the puck carrier puts the puck on net for rebounds instead of wrapping it behind the net all the time we have a lot more goals than we do. - Shrike
listening to Clement initially excuse provorov by saying there wasn't much he could do because of the way the puck rebounded out made me cringe. My first thought was stay on your guy and that doesn't happen. |

Numerous Flyers defenseman have been doing that. Provorov last night, MacDonald in a previous game. Your back should not be to your check. Cover and neutralize the player who is your responsibility instead of turning around and looking for the puck. |

You save 3.6 million with a buy out this upcoming season. If were serious about being contenders that's a lot of money. Amac is a 7th the last few games. If we acquire a vet like it sounds like fletch covets hes now an 8th. It makes sense to me but I can see both sides. - Tfaehner
Are the Flyers having cap issues? will they be in cap hell in the next 2 seasons? If the answer is no, that is the answer for buy outs as well |

“Better” isn’t the right question when the discussion is a development league (AHL) or in discussing a call-up for depth. Myers and Morin both played for the Phantoms this year and have a higher upside than AMac. Friedman and Wilcox are interesting possibilities. You are talking about someone to sit as the 7th or play 6th-man minutes. The role would depend on who we had out with injuries but the call up doesn’t need to fill in the top 4. That opportunity would be given to someone already on the Flyers defense.

In response to your reply of "I'm not sure that is true" that is absolutely the right question. You dodged the question and really didn't offer anything of substance as to why having MacDonald as a veteran in the AHL other than his salary and cap expenditure for the Flyers is a bad thing. |

Yeah, I don't see them having cap problems in the next two years and will be concerned if they do. Keep Macdonald as a 7th or trade him with money retained and I don't think you will need a sweetner if you're retaining money. |

Really, I will repeat it then.
He (AMac) takes a spot from a developing player. They have plenty of veteran AHL leadership already. The Flyers also are not hurting for depth call up options. - NC Flyers Fan

You just can't have a team of developing players. Every AHL team uses veteran players on their roster in the AHL.
Are Colin MacDonald, Byron Froese, Chris Conner, David Schlemko, T.J. Brennan and Mike McKenna all taking a spot away from a developing player?
Can you show me an AHL team that does not have veteran players who are no longer developing players on it? |

Exactly what I said. The Phantoms already have the “veteran presence” covered nicely. You want to get rid of them...to use AMac who costs more?

From Charlie O'Connor's article about last night on the athletic:
"So far, Robert Hagg’s performance in the NHL, by advanced stats, isn’t exactly strong. In fact, Evolving Wild’s Goals Above Replacement metric actually has Hagg ranked as the worst-performing defenseman during the 2018-19 season"
This actually kind of surprised me because I thought he looked better than last season but it seems that we get caved in possession whenever he is on the ice. If all falls right next year he is replaced by Morin or a free agent signing and becomes our 7th dman |

No it's not exactly what you said. The bottom line is that there is room for MacDonald in the AHL if that's what needs to happen.

Buying out AMac is stupid. If you dont need the space, you put up with him. Deal him and retain cap if you have to. He is still a servicable Dman and teams will want him in the final year of his contract at a smaller cap hit. Adding an extra year of tied up Cap is the dumbest thing we can do right now. |

If you'll notice I said I think he looked better than last year (and implied that he looked better than this stat shows-hence why I was surprised)
I don't think Hagg is as bad as his phancy stats show, but I also believe that if we want to be true contenders than we can find someone better for his spot in the lineup. |

Notice the key words used....
Once again the metric is based off possession which is then magically tied to shot attempts and gift wrapped around "individual performance".
So by using the same metric for a whole team, by the same definition, Carolina is the best team in the NHL. |
