Well, fancy stats be darned. Hägg is good at what he does. I like the hits and in-your-face physical play that gets players like Malkin off their games. I don’t know if we keep him either, but it is not because he is not valuable. - NC Flyers Fan
The problem with the stats they use to judge players...
if a FORWARD goes and misses the net by 20 feet, that makes EVERYONE on his team look good, but on the same shift a player saves a goal by blocking it with his face that is considered a bad player. |

A few thoughts
-I think Scott Gordon deserves a job. Not as head coach but possibly defensive coach. I know Rick Wilson just got here but he’s a Hakstol recommendation. Travis Sanheim, Robert Hägg, Phil Myers and anyone else who come from the minors are his babies. I think we need a big fish like Joel Quenneville. I just don’t want Gordon handling the Power Play at all.
-Look where JvR scores his first goal tonight. He should have been playing the slot all season. JvR has the heaviest and most accurate shot on the team IMO.
-Ryan Hartman has a real nice set up to the second JvR goal. It was a nice play. With this said, two bad turnovers in his first shift, in the defensive zone to start the game. Great Debut but underwhelming since his first game as a Flyer. I still expect him to be a very good fourth line player moving forward.
-Got to be harder on Gabriel. They picked up the physical play in the third but Patrick is gonna be as important as Giroux is now, someday. Patrick should have to take matters in his own hands. Simmonds isn't here anymore and man do we look weak without him. - SuperSchennBros
1) Gordon is great at player development, communication and the PK. We’ll see.
2) JVR in the slot... I’d like to keep seeing it.
3) Hartman looks like a good third liner to me.
4) Patrick did well for himself. I think of our in-house options—Morin has the intimidation factor.

Problem with JvR in the slot...the coach didn't put him there when he scored, HE went to the slot when he scored. Coaches don't yell from the bench to direct players where to go, goal scorers find open space. |

What a fine job he did, too. |

The Flyers are using the same PK scheme that they used under Hakstol.

Gordon has coached the players to make better, more aggressive decisions that have improved the PK by the eye test, and I would venture a guess, the stats reflect that.

And it was an amazing job, timing that shot right when the puck lands is no ease feat, but players get rewarded when they go to the right spot. |

The PK started to improve before Gordon took over and they had always been coached to play more aggressively on the PK. I'm sure Gordon has had some input and made some minor tweaks but the system is the same.

Even Eklund sees it....
"I have brought this up with the NHL and they love this system because teams are close artificially close in the standings and there is the appearance that many teams are in it....and while they technically are, history tells us they aren't really...and NHL fans are starting to get tired of it."

I’m not sure why you think I am talking about systems. I’m not. Personally, I would love to see stats with graphs showing G’s PK ice time alongside the improved play and difference in results after about 4 games into the coaching change. This is all my opinion anyway so I am not going to argue about this. It wasn’t meant as a dis on Hak, just something I, personally, see as a strength of Gordon.

Nobody said the coach put him there. I’m saying the coach should put him there, which is the argument I’m making for JvR. Simmonds isn’t here anymore, so it doesn’t matter anymore but it’s an argument I’ve made all season. I wouldn’t have said anything if it was apart of the coach’s scheme. |

Systems, coaching, whatever you want to call it. I think Gordon has done a nice job.

Why is Patrick such a wuss? When TK is fighting your battles, you really need to check and see if there's anything hangin downstairs... |

When Gabriel’s head stops spinning ask him if Patrick is a wus. It was the perfect response at the right time of the game. |
