Your opinion differs from mine, and that's fine. I believe a good second line center like ROR (something we don't have now), with Dahlin and better goaltending than we had last year puts us in the playoffs.
- kritter65

I just don’t see how you think that’s the most important issue is when this team can’t defend and is letting in 3-5 goals per game the last 2 months.

You think a 2nd line center makes up what will probably be atleast a -20 goal differential by years end?

His own team is struggling with goaltending and scoring

Yes. Ideally the St. Louis pick falls at 19 so they don't get it. If that's the case I dangle it at the draft.
- mhp

maybe...the pipeline's still pretty thin and a 19th-overall might help that, but if it helps land a legit top-six forward, it should be considered

Fair enough. And you're right, always best to assess a trade a few years down the line a bit. If Anaheim gets the SJ pick, then this trade will teeter on disaster, even in a few years.
- mhp

I really don't get what you're trying to say here. Ana getting the SJ pick is ideal for us.

We have traded one of those 1sts+ for Montour. If you put together the RoR, Skinner, and Montour trades, I like our end of it.

We also have no 2nd, 5th, and maybe 4th. Knowing JB, if he trades a 1st, he'll want to recoup some picks somehow.

Comments like this, that have 0 to do with the topic in hand, are the exact reason I’m done responding to you and a few others on here.

When you need to point out something from the past to try and invalidate my opinion on a completely different topic it makes you look like a moron.

Enjoy your day.

Not really
It goes to show your track record of:
1) being wrong
2) wildly exaggerating

Your the biggest hater on these boards
Go look at your posts on a day to day basis
Every day it’s just u bashing someone
Lately, it’s been Risto
Previously, it’s been Sam

If we retain the Blues pick we should use it. Use Risto as the trade chip for a top 6 forward or move Bogo for a mid round pick and keep Risto and use the extra cap space in FA.

If you really dont believe that, you must really dislike O'Reilly.

How is st louis doing? He still ripping apart that locker room? Amazing what some solid goaltending will do.

- Mentalorgasm5

It was all O’Reilly’s fault
Just look at the records
Oh, wait...

And we’d be 5-6 points out of a playoff spot, instead of 8-10, with less cap space and assets, and no Montour and maybe no Skinner.

So then another year of ROR’s prime (pretty much his last) will have been wasted and we’d get the same post-game interview for the 1,000 time while talking about needing change and whether to fire the coach or not.

Guhle, Bailey, Baptiste, Armia, McNabb, Nylander, Cornel, Karabacek, Hurley, Gregorenko, Fasching...

The list can go on and on... we need to fix our drafting and development, we're going nowhere as an organization until this happens.

Offer Yzerman double what Detroit is gonna pay him
Also offer all the scouts from Tampa big raises & steal them away

Tage is 6 foot (frank)ing 5. He needs to learn how to use his size, and there is no better place to do that then a league like the AHL.

Why JB hasn't sent him down I will never understand.

If we do decide to move on from Housley, Q is the obvious low hanging fruit choice. I think I like Alain Vigneault though.

Interesting idea
But he’s still years away from playing here
So we’d need another RH defenseman in the meantime

Both reasonable choices
Seems like Botts isn’t gonna change coaches though

Bringing in a hockey guy like Yzerman to be the Team President could be huge though
Especially if he can bring some scouts from Tampa with him
They’ve been nothing short of OUTSTANDING with their drafting & development

Yzerman to Detroit makes too much sense. His family is still there. Seems like a lock to me. Ken Holland though could be available and I wouldn’t mind him as a President.

Seider is a pick for the future and we would have a strong crop of prospects at D- Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Borgen.

If you move Risto for top 6 help you could move Dahlin over to the right and also have Montour. I don't know just spit balling ideas.

Yeah, probably true
That’s why i said pay him double
Detroit & Buffalo are similar enough that maybe the family could move
Or at least Buffalo-Detroit is a super short flight, so Yzerman could still spend a lot more time with his fam

Idk that i want Holland?
He’s pretty much wrecked Detroit over the last 5yrs or so
He’s done a terrible job of bringing in the next waive of talent to take over for Lidstrom, Zetterberg & Datsyuk

I would pass on Boucher though. He plays the 1-3-1 trap. Q would be an ideal choice. If Torts gets fired, I would love his fire behind the bench, and he can butt heads with Harrington. Priceless..

What can realistically be expected in a return for Risto? Other team’s GMs can see the same deficiencies as we can, I’d think.

Huberdeau is a point a game player at 5.9 for the next five years. At age 25, that’s a bargain. If the Panthers are dealing him, they can do way better than Risto.

The team is still stuck with quite a bit of dead weight for next year, but much less the year after. But by then, both Dahlin and Mitt’s ELCs will have been used up.

I don’t see JB speeding up the rebuild. He’s a very patient and cautious guy. It would seem he’s going to use the two 1sts, and wait for the last two years draft picks to develop.

The “trade Risto idea” has its merits-
depending on the return

But we’ve gotta replace him in the Top4 if he’s moved
Even if Dahlin moves to the right...
who’s our 2 LH defensemen in the Top4?
Maybe Pilut? But his struggles showed he’s still got some growing to do before he’s a dependable Top4 guy
I like McCabe alright...
but pairing him with Dahlin 20+ min a night is probably too much of an ask

So yeah...
trading Risto could help get another forward
But it also weakens a defense that still needs work as it is

I think there are some good players to be had in FA this year that makes us a playoff team as early as next year while the picks develop. It’s all up to if they would want to come here and can Botts clear out Sobotka, Scandella, and Hunwick to make it happen. I’m ok with Sheary on the 3rd line for one more year until his contract expires then he can kick rocks too.

Kronwall/Bouwmeester/Edler could be a one to two year stop gap. Stralman for the right side. Karlsson dream is still alive until he signs on the dotted line. Could always look at Gardiner but he can’t play defense all too well. Would Myers come back ? Gunnarsson and McQuaid are good bargain bin options.

I would prefer to trade Risto to a western team, maybe SJ if they don't re-sign EK.

Dallas could use a RD. Vegas could use help on that side too.
