Wasn't he on AO's line that season? - jmatchett383
2 most common linemates were Semin and Fleischmann.
Then Ovechkin, Laich, Fehr, and Kozlov. |

Crosby’s most common defenseman is Letang. He’s pretty decent I hear - jchst22
Crosby also has 10 pts in his last 4 while, Letang hasn't been playing...Its hard to blame JJ, for Kessel and Geno performing poorly(relatively) when Crosby and Guentzal are performing better. |

So Letang has been the problem all these years.

Doesn't Geno have like 6 or 7 goals plus some assists to go along with them in the 7 or 8 games he's played since the suspension? |

To be racist you have to hold a belief that a race is biologically superior to another. I guess its possible to be racist against your own race, but it's incredibly hard to reach that point and probably involves some form of Stockholm syndrome. If you can point to direct moments where Tanner has suggested that white people are biologically inferior to other races, I'll be happy to admit I'm wrong, but there's a huge difference between that belief, and being self loathing and thinking your race has cultural tendencies that suck. - Victoro311
Jeff Sessions, the FBI was better off when “you only hired Irishmen” as they were “drunks but they could be trusted”. Is that not racist? |

He does not back check consistently, in occasion perhaps. And while he isn't pond hockey floating at the redline, watch him in his defensive zone. He does these little loops around the top to middle of the circle and it seems like he intentionally puts himself out of position so he can't get to the boards to make a play if he is going to be challenged.
This is why he was so effective with the HBK line and not so much with Geno and whatever winger they insert. Hagelin and Bonino did all of the hard work down low and they were able to free up Kessel to attack. It also helped that their line had way easier matchups going against 3rd lines and pairs.
My point is that Kessel is responsible for his own struggles. He isn't playing well, so stop trying to make excuses for him. Hopefully he gets it back on track down the stretch. He is due. - MacPatty

So what about where I talked about this year?
You are one of the most stubborn contributors to this community I've ever exchanged with, and dont take that as me wanting you gone or not around or anything, thats not the case. Its just that not only does pretty much every other single person here disagrees with you but also the actual stats arnt on your side either
I just showed a plain as day example that you are absolutely wrong about Phil and Geno and you don't acknowledge it at all.
PS: I can be very stubborn around here too... - MattStrat

I'm just having some fun. Absolutely right I am being stubborn. It has just been annoying listening to so many people blame all of the Pens woes on a bottom pair defenceman.
Kessel is great at scoring and thats exactly why the Pens got him. But the expectation is that when a player of his caliber is playing with a player of Malkins caliber, they should be able to pick up the players around them.
I'm sure Kessel would be the first to admit he is not playing good right now. It's just odd how everyone here wants to make excuses for him. - MacPatty
Hey dippoop, you call JJ a bottom pairing defenseman but he’s getting top 4 minutes and has been all season. |

I know this is super random, but... I hate when a trade happens and people around here are like "why didn't JR make that trade?!?!" I bring this up because I've kind of been keeping tabs on Chicago. Despite the fact they're losing they're a lot of fun to watch this year.
I look at the Strome/Schmaltz trade. For all his whining, Tanner was dead on about Strome. Dude is a stud and was totally being mishandled by AZ. I look at that trade and wonder if JR had inquired or if not, what would move could they have made for Strome. - Rinosaur
Tanner is actually pretty smart and one of the better writers in this site. Stubborn as (frank) but I enjoy his writing and while there are things I disagree with him on, I think he provides above average analysis.
