I mean I DO live in Buffalo.

Seriously, what a weird thing. Where does one live where they think a house with one bathroom is equivalent to a literal third world country?

- Wetbandit1

The fact that people are so spoiled is one of the reasons why housing has become so unaffordable. If we absolutely need a bathroom for everyone and all the bells and whistles the price escalates in a hurry.

I find it hard to take this comment seriously because clearly everything has a context, and I doubt that you're that obtuse you don't see it. But if you insist on an explanation: Plus/ Minus is often quoted without context "Ron Hainsey is a plus 30 so obviously he's doing well," when in fact he is terrible.

Plus minus has many problems, among them that it is goaltending dependent, and that goals are random events that take an extremely long time to get a useful sample size.

So that is why it's no good. I don't use it, and I don't even ever mention goal differential at all, but in the example from this blog where I did use it, I also put it in the context of one of five total metrics (shot attempts, shots, scoring chances, high danger scoring chances, that together make up virtually anything worth knowing about a hockey player.

If he is a positive in all five, I think it's pretty clear that he's a good player. Honestly, I find it really sad that you pretend not to understand this in order to troll me. If you seriously needed it explained, well there you have it.

Nothing you have said has invalidated my point.

You referred to a stat that is essentially +/- with a minor difference in totals because some specific situations are not calculated.

You are fine referring to one of them and call the other the worst stat ever.

Your 4 paragraphs are barely intelligible gibberish which amount to nothing more than obfuscation.

Nothing unexpected from you though.

Heres a good rule of thumb
People in a household × 1.5 = number of bathrooms needed
Plus throw in a few powder rooms for high class ladies

One, I never admitted that, that's insane. Two, this clearly isn't my full time job. Considering that myself and almost all of the people I trust to actually write or analyze hockey have other full time jobs, I think it's pretty weird that the people who do it full time are often so bad at it.

Its because you are terrible at it. You are constantly wrong and you are right sometimes but for the amount of times you are wrong the "Kadri is a great player" statements become irrelevant. Also, just in case you were wondering "Kadri is better than Tavares" was always so terribly wrong and still is to this day so terribly wrong.

Remember that time you said that teams should just put all their best offensive players on the PK since every teams PK % is the same they might as well try and get shorthanded goals.... holy crap... The dumb poop that comes out of your mou...uh prose... is astonishing.

Here's the thing: you remember things i supposedly said years ago and I have no idea who you are or whether we've ever spoken before. I also get paid to be here, so honestly, which one of us is the idiot?

He doesn't understand anything about hockey. He mentions the five things he thinks make a hockey player a player - but using his own logic - those things are only results of other ACTUAL things which he knows nothing about.

Shots...high danger chances for and against....those are results of so many things... the things that make hockey players hockey players... NHL players are elite talents so I believe that positioning, decision making, effort/heart are the most important.

Ron Hainsey is not terrible. Ron Hainsey if a highly effective NHL defenceman who is straight up underpaid for what he provides...still I hope we can sign him for 1-2 years at $3mil.

Kinda like the guy digging at an actual GM with tons of injuries in PIT, then admitting he allowed his kids to grow up in a house like in Cuba.

One bathroom? WTF?

Some "dad".

- DutchCanSaveUs

Ripping the parenting qualities of someone you don't know is a Richard move. Growing up, I knew plenty of fine parents who lived in apartments because that was all they could afford. It was very responsible of them to live within their means. Hell, in the winter, I shut off the water to my unheated addition and the 4 of us just use one bathroom. Guess that mere fact makes me a terrible parent.

You're a (frank)ing Richard, get (frank)ed.

Not sure why you wouldn't be proud of your book. Maybe not up there with Delillo yet but Jonathan Edward Elliotte's book has quite the climax.

Hey Thanks man, I'm super proud of it. I just don't know if any of my three current or future employers will be.

But either way, your joke rocks and thanks for the support.

I never said you are an idiot. I enjoy your writing and your blogs. Your extreme arrogance is very familiar(I'm like that). I'm citing the most extreme examples of absurd things you've said that I can remember. You ranted for a good chunk of time about Kadri being better than Tavares. Even at that time before Kadri hit his full NHL stride I thought Kadri was a great player but the your hyperbolic statements were wrong. Of course they are also a large part of the reason I read almost all of your blogs. I have complimented you occasionally but I have no issue calling out your BS as BS when it is clearly BS.

It does not matter if we've spoken before or if you get paid to be here. Don't be so defensive when somebody calls out your obvious errors. Be the example of the online change that you support(wrong word there) and be willing to admit when you are wrong.

Don't lose your style. Don't lose your hyperbolic statements. And as I've said in many of the more recent times I've posted here you have been much better in these instances. I can't remember the exact blog but my initial post was "wow, Tanner just went for common sense here". Then I read a ton of posts calling you Garth at the exact moment when you were actually being sensible.

Your writing is good, I enjoy it. Be prepared to be called out. This is the internet so...ya know... take the poop in stride, but some people have valid points and you should consider them and spend time thinking about them.

I never called you an idiot. I think your hockey knowledge is flawed like crazy but you know some poop but it gets lost in translation because of your tone. I'm a numbers nerd(by education and profession) but I will never base an argument on Corsi alone. Or +/- alone. BTW +/- is a useful stat if you know what it measures. I would drop 3 on 3 OT from the calculation but I'm okay with a minus on a PP for a SHG against, even though you don't get a plus for PP goal for.

Drop OT and EN goals against and I think it could be ok. EN goals against, especially in this NHL where the games are so close, and the coaches are more prone to pulling the goalie much earlier, and players more than willing to take chances from deep in their own end causes a rash of minuses. The Sabres have had 10 EN goals against this year, very often with the top line out there, that's going to tank a player's plus/minus, really through no fault of their own, especially the ones that were rifled in from the other team's defensive zone dots.
