I gotta agree with what ultimate said in the last blog. Trouba had 2 chances to sign long term deals and it didn't happen, and he could have signed January 1. It's not happening.
Plus most of the posters want to rid the Jets of Morrow,Chiarot, and Kulikov
With that in mind what are the Jets realistic options, sign Myers or run a defense that looks like this:
Poolman-Byfuglien
Morrissey-Niku
Jetsnation-Rexypoo - BWJumper
Let’s see what we have in the two new guys. Beaulieu is an RFA so if we want him back we can make that happen.
I think the main point is there will be other options via free agency that are at the very least equal to the likes of morrow, Chairot, Myers and Kulikov but could be had for much less money. I’m fine signing Myers, but only if he wants 5-6 D type money, not top 4 cause hes not a top 4 D. |

2 righties,
2 lefties (not politically I hope)
and an interesting third pairing indeed. One has the body of Evel Kneival and the other is a mad scientist that would have trouble seeing through his computer screen mask??
Just having some fun, settle down everyone! |

I still play hockey three times a week whereas Rexypoo has never played a game in his life so I'm not partnering with him plus I'd hate to see him mouth off to Maurice every time we got to the bench. I'm also a righty so please pair me with Morrissey.....thx. - jetsnation
I'll go on the left side. That's my natural pos'n.
Give me two weeks to get in shape, get an ambulance and a paramedic ready with a defib, and I will Challenge anyone blue line to blue line, one way only |

I'm also happy to sign for a cap-friendly $2.2 MM per on a two-year contract. Chevy can reach out to me at any time if the Myers contract talks stall.

I don’t care who’s over rated or under rated (I’d say you can argue both may be over rated ) I just want the better player and that’s clearly Trouba. Your post by the way, clearly shows you are taking sides, admit or not. I know you are. - Ross77
I am only taking sides because this conversation needs me to do so. Also, I own a Tyler Myers jersey which I purchased as soon as he was traded to Winnipeg. |

I heard them discuss it as well, they said he was on their radar but never mentioned it was close between him and Shief. |

I’d also assume the decision came down to Shief or Cotourier. |

I thought I could get you for the league minimum.
But if you say you will be excellent in the room too, that might be a contract Chevy could live with. |

Changing the topic somewhat...
Jesse Puljujarvi surgery on both hips. That explains why he wasn't traded ( damaged goods) and possibly why he hasn't played up to his potential (hip problems).
The surprise team that is playing excellent hockey and might just make the playoffs is Arizona. The play a very fast tempo quick transition game similar to Vegas , Montreal , and Minnesota. They could be the Jets opponent in the first round so its something to watch with interest. Raanta might also be back in a few weeks.
Writers are calling it such a gutsy move by Columbus with regards to its trade deadline moves, but it might be looked back as one of the worst trade deadline decisions in the history of the NHL if they don't make the playoffs. Instead of getting a couple of first round picks and prospects for Panarin and Bobrovsky they give up a couple of decent prospects plus two firsts and two seconds ( one conditional) . That's a swing of four first rounders and a few seconds, prospects, etc and none of the UFA's may stay on the team after the season is over. I just can't see the wisdom in that when Tampa ( their probable first-round opponent) is having a near flawless NHL season and competition is so tough at the top. Kekalainen should be fired . |

Possibility of some serious egg on Kekalainen’s face on that one.

Absilutely agree. Unless Kekaleinen knows something we don't about the possibility of resigning Panarin and Bobrovsky..... |

Tyler Ennis got the nod after being a healthy scratch the previous game (while they took a look at Petan). He responded with a hat trick and 6 shots on net. We may not be seeing Petan back in the lineup for a while after that performance by Ennis.

Poolman can't play his off side and Kulikov is still under contract next year so realistically the worst case scenario based on current contracts and team control would be:
Morrissey - Niku
Kulikov - Buff
Someone - Poolman
With someone being Beaulieu, Morrow, Chiarot (if extended) or Samberg/Stanley. Or we keep Trouba one more year and then Niku - Poolman becomes the bottom pair (or Niku-Buff and Kulikov-Poolman)

I play twice per week, how dare.
Also, yeah, you don’t want me as a partner. I doubt you can keep up with me, and also I’ve got Trouba brain where I’m either excellent or totally not even close to where or what I should be |

I’m a lefty. I can play either side mediocrely.
Having said that, you had to make it political? I don’t know or care about what defines sides in the political spectrum, but I think I’m definitely on the left probably |

I think Babcock will continue to shuffle Petan in and out of the line-up. He's not like Maurice where he sits a guy 30 games and then only plays him 8 minutes, so when that player makes a mistake, he can take him out of the line-up again. |

Trouba will only be traded for an equal value dman, or a top 4 dman and a 1st or something.
He won’t be a hole in the lineup, as his replacement will be coming back for him.
Myers, Morrow, Chiarot, and Kulikov have to be gone for next season.
Stanley and Samberg are years away from being ready.
Beaulieu should absolutely be re-signed on the cheap
As a side note, putting Niku on the top pairing and on his off side in his first full season is a bad idea. |
