Skinner
Last year comparable was Kane at $7m x 7 = $49
Cap up say 4%; adjusted to $7.3m x 7 = $51.1
Stone's apparent new contract of $8 x $9.5M = $76m
I don't think Stone is a great comparable, MUCH better 2 way player and pots as many goals as Skinner has averaged over his career at 26 or so, and puts up way more assists....Stone is simply a much better all around player.
assuming we were to assign a 10%-20% premium for Stone then...
makes a comparable contract value for Skinner more like $8.0m - $8.63m
Other teams can only offer 7 years
$8.63M x 7 = $60.4m on high end of this argument might be expected.
Botts could go 8 x $7.55 = $60.4 and be even in total contract value
A term of 8 @ $8.63M = $69.1m total value
The highest I would go is to pay him a slight premium for a 7 year term...so 7 x $8.75m = $61.25m and refuse to discuss 8 years, period.
That is $500K more per year than I would really like to land ($8.25)
Playing in front of family 43 times a year (41 +2 in TO) and being able to see them more frequently has value very few other teams can match. If he walks from that, and playing with an elite center is worth another $5m over 7 years -- F'em then - IonSabres
I respect that youre only spitballing...but if the Sabres pay him 8.75 a year...theyre the laughing stock of the league again. And get what they deserve |

Bad math. 6 of those 7 years overlap.

Plus he’s never led a team to the playoffs or even played in one game. Yeah let’s make him the second highest player so he can be the next Kyle Okposo. - Carubba-Kaleta
Exactly right....this...is ...exactly...right.... |

He isn't totally useless.
I would prefer to be under $8M for sure.
the alternative isn't pretty, especially when Botts has to fill, mostly likely in FA
- 1RW
- 2LW
- 2C
- 3RW
- nevermind the D
Maybe a Risto trade gets him one of the top 3 listed. That is still a lot of positions to fill...AND he will be taking a chance that those he signs actually fulfill their promise..which is more rare than likely.
Skinner is a known commodity that scores on a team so void of scoring ability it is laughable.
Pay the man under $8.75 for less than 8 years and move along to find the right FA's necessary to move this team forward aggressively.

OK... So who on the Sabres has led a team to the playoffs? And..... Exactly how much do you think such a player will cost the Sabres? Lets see some examples here... |

You make it sound like Skinner is going to get 40 every year.
1. he hasn't scored 40 here yet.
2. hes QUIT over the last 10 games. QUIT.
3. Id rather pay a guy 6 who will get 30-32 with #9, that 9 million for a guy that is going to get 38. |

He hasn't quit. Ffs. Stop. (frank)ing guy, along w Eichel, carried us ALL YEAR. Many goal scorers are streaky. And he's been money all year.

And no other Sabres have quit? Skinner is the only guy responsible to get them into the playoffs? He is solely to blame? No other Sabre has failed to score consistently? Now I may not agree with paying him almost 10mill a year but if he can be had for 8 or less he needs to stay. I just don't agree with laying all the Sabres failures at his feet.. |

he hasn't scored in 9 games....Id call that "not scoring" - RippedFuel
Such a small sample size is cherry picking at it's finest. He's a .372 goal per game player for his career. To put that in perspective Kucherov is .412 goals per game.
He's an elite scorer. Why you'd argue otherwise, I am unsure.
You can make a case for not keeping him despite his abilities. Don't think you can argue he isn't a great scorer. |

Wheres he been the last 9 games?? Carrying us??
not the FULL blame...again...for the UMPTEENTH time..the guy is adequate...but not worth over 7. He hasn't carried a thing for 9 games....
He doesn't get the full blame....because Risto does.. |

He isn't a GREAT scorer.....Ovi is, Matthews is, McDavid is, Kucherov is, Patrick Kane is...
Those are ELITE...
Ill argue all day about "great" being tied to skinner.... |

Let me ask this... Lets just say for poops and giggles that Skinner scores 70 goals in a particular season.... HOWEVER he has a 10 game stretch where he does not score and the Sabres miss the playoffs that year. Does this mean it was Skinners fault they did not make the playoffs and that he would not be worth resigning? |

This question has zero reality in it...and has zero to do with the topic.
I don't live in fantasy land so I wont give it a second of thought.
lets talk REALITY....when the going go tough..and we were hanging on to the playoff hunt by a hair..our "great" goal scorer decided to disappear.....THAT...is a fact, not your little fantasy world.. |

for 9 million a year..if you go 9 games without a goal..WHEN THATS ALL YOU GET PAID TO DO....(not like Eichel, or Karlsson, or Mc D)….YOURE DAMN RIGHT youre the blame.. |
