its not being tough at all. "i would like to thank the Vancouver Canucks Organization for the opportunity and thank the Utica Comets and all their fans for all of their support, I look forward to a new adventure with the Sharks"
instead
"I didn't develop well, i didn't like the systems, my agent says i asked for a trade but I really didn't, i just didn't develop well in their systems, but i like all the people in Utica"
*time passes*
"i would just like to say that I had to delete my social media because of threats and harrassment from vancouver fans"
Again, I am not a professional athlete, never had to deal with this stuff, but sometimes less is more, and no one would have made this whole thing into a big deal had he just addressed it professionally like all other players do when they get traded. just my opinion of course. - Codes1087
Classic case of a Euro's first year in NA hockey though, a lot of them just say what's on their mind back in Europe, it's a bigger story here since everyone is required to say "get pucks in deep" in every answer.
I remember when the Sedins were here, even as vets that were great with the media, they still gave more candid answers back home in Sweden during the summer. |

he's answered questions honestly from his perspective.
it's funny how personally (some) fans take this stuff.
the players are the bestest ever until they get traded.

You're asking a young guy from another country with little to no media training to deftly sidestep badgering from reporters desperate to squeeze any negative lines they can out of him and run with them. Just saying, it's not as black and white as saying the right or wrong thing |

Not taking sides, don’t give two sh!ts about trading him, but from the link it sounded like he didn’t in fact get prime opportunities. It’s not just Vancouver fan base, it’s people being stupid. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Trump hired Russian hackers to attack Dahlen’s social media pages to incite a riot... - 1970vintage
Offensive zone starts and a fixture on PP 1. What else does he want? Oh right, a personal feelings coach |

Injuries don't help. Salo has been mentoring him before he was in Utica - 93Nucks
He needs a skating coach more than Salo, if he struggles to pivot/skate backward then even Salo can only help him so much.
At least he has shown the ability to be a good skater, he just needs to get back to where he was. People saying Gadjovich needs one are right too, but the potential impact of OJ working with a skating coach during a full summer would be much greater than trying to get a slow guy to skate slightly less slower.

again, the only reason this is even a big deal, is because of his "honesty". No one had Dahlen pencilled into a top 6 role or even a sure-bet to be a Canuck, judging by his numbers in Utica this year anyway.
Again, John Tavares could have gone to the media and said "Barclays center is a dump, ownership is a dump, garth snow is a tool, management is still paying dipietro cause they are idiotic, etc etc etc". I see your point, ESL, honest, whatever, but again, I will just agree to disagree with how he has gone about it. |

I mean if you "don't feel sorry for him at all" then to me that basically is saying that you think it's fine for him to receive all this hate.
Again I think this is all inconsequential since it will blow over quickly. Nobody will even be talking about it a few months from now |

I don't disagree but I guess I should have clarified, that injuries have stalled his development (it was a shot at the oft injured Salo) |

There was more than that to his performance levels. |

No doubt, but even during the year after he got drafted, he didn't really improve significantly in the OHL according to London Knights/OHL fans, yet for some bizarre reason we heard "he has nothing left to prove in the OHL!" |

Plus he was fantastic at the WJ's that year. His skating and defense has somehow regressed which sucks lol - Nucker101
True. It has regressed which does suck looks to be injury related. Hoping he makes an impact at camp next year. |

He was solid in the OHL that year too for a draft eligible player. Like Jake, there were some early warning signs during their draft +1 seasons. |

again your point is: bite your tongue and don't answer honestly.
fair point. that's a reasonable opinion for athletes or anyone in the public eye.
however, that doesn't seem to be his personality (or swedes for that matter). he answers openly. a little too openly as it becomes controversial.
i hate hockey interviews because they hardly ever reveal any real information. i appreciate when players are open and honest. even when i don't agree with the opinion.
i'll take this type over the, "i've just got to simplify my game. get back to basics. i need to take it one shift at a time and one game at a time. if i work hard, i know i'll be okay. " |

huh? are you serious?
pettersson does the same thing (answer honestly) and he definitely has had issues because of it.
weren't numerous articles (national and local) about how he handles/hates the media?
