Didn't Pickard only start like 3-4 games during the 2nd and 3rd week?

I'm not saying they didn't have a perfect storm of injuries/regression/bad goaltending/etc, but it's not like they went into the season banking on Pickard being their starter. Granted, it is their fault not addressing the goaltending concerns during the summer.

- jmatchett383

Yeah. In that litany, Pickard was more symbolic of the entire cluster(frank) of instability that has been the goalie situation this season. Coming out of that cluster(frank) knowing that Carter Hart should probably be the guy next year is the silver lining there.

I don't think we are in a position to move on from any of our young D yet (besides Amac of course), not saying you said we should move on but. Meyers has looked good but it's only been a handful of games, Hagg has his struggles and obviously not the biggest ceiling but he is a capable 5/6. We should go into next year with our same group and just let things play out. Injuries happen too so it's nice to have depth.

That wasn't the case today
- Scoob

Nope. It wasn't. Sure was yesterday (personally).

I don't mind people commenting on discussions here, I just would like them to be civil and not try to belittle people for having differing opinions.

Example: "I want to trade player A+ for Player B."

Response 1: "I think that + is going to have to be substantial, there's a pretty big difference in value of those 2 players."

Response 2: "This is idiotic and unreasonable, there's no way you could trade Player A and expect to get Player B."

You see how this can go both ways depending on how you give your input to a discussion?

Well, I like Hagg more than some, but he's never really blossomed into a top-4 guy, I see him as a decent/strong bottom-pair. Myers looks good, but let's give him a much longer look.

But so far, so good.

- jmatchett383

Yes, it is at least two years before Myers taps his ceiling, but in honesty, his floor is already a 3rd pairing guy. Hägg just seems too young and as you say a strong 3rd pairing guy himself to use as the 7th guy. Just my opinion but he would have value in trade if he doesn’t fit with the plan moving forward.

I really hate to harp on this but this "core" has to change. Too much inconsistency. Too many winning and losing streaks, or inconsistency between home and road wins, or 5 on 5 vs PP...

Simmonds has been traded so that is one piece changed out... but I would like to see one of Voracek or Ghost traded as well. I just feel like they cut corners during parts of the season and the rest of the team follows suit.

It really depends on rest of the teams as well but i dont think 97 points will be the cutoff.

Based on MTL last 10 they are on pace for 89 points. Columbus hasnt been too hot either. Of course things can change quickly and they could get hot at anytime.

That being said with CBJ and PIT playing each other twice, whats best outcome? Do we prefer one beats other twice in reg or perhaps a regulation split? 2 Columbus loses help us pass them but gives pens 4 points which is why i think split is more advantageous.

That was Game 7 2011, first goal. And yeah, Briere was a clutch playoff guy.

I just can't respect a fan base that actively cheers for the other team and literally boos their own players at home games when they score.

Is it wrong that my opinion is based solely on the fact that I want PIT to miss?

Of course I do - I'm reasonable. :-) lol

Follow-up responses can go a long way, too.

I agree, Haag is much better and isnt an ideal candidate for a 7th defenseman. For a variety of reasons.

I get that. But still, when you see a response like #2, wouldn't you agree that it's someone just looking to start the kind of arguments you were talking about?

Basically, you don't have to agree with someone, but you can do it with a shred of tact and without insulting people. Some people (people, not one person) on here seem to disregard that part.

To start the season, yes. You need to see how camp goes, along with Pre Season and then just see what happens. Also, we have no idea what we have in Morin so why wouldn't we start next year with all our guys? If someone is clearly the odd man out, deal with it then.
