No one is saying he hasn't earned it. But you also don't run a team on sentimental value.

Agreed. But I exclude Hank from that rule.

nope, and with Shesty hopefully on his way soon, they need to know what they have in Georgiev, need to see as much of him as they can

I love Hank but, lets be honest, him leaving would be good for the team at the current situation. Plus if Georgie keeps playing the way he has, you are either losing him to Seattle for nothing, or we give them a pick so they don't take him.
- mdw7413

Hank's contract will be over by then so he won't need to be protected and Shestrokin will be exempt. If Georgie plays like this then he will be protected.

The fan base would be irate, but ahem

https://www.capfriendly.c.../henrik-lundqvist#results

If you let him play next year as a "retirement tour" in terms of this team, his buyout number becomes even more palatable.

it's a requirement that they have to expose a goalie with a minimum number of NHL games played, such a silly rule really

Buying out Hank would be a poop show.

There still has to be a goalie exposed with a certain amount of NHL experience I believe

That will be tricky. They might have to trade for someone.

another thing to remember, if they lose Georgiev in the expansion draft they can't lose anyone else

if come time for the expansion draft it's Shesty and Georgiev in nets, maybe they'll just bite the bullet and live with that

Definitely possible. In fact, that scenario seems as though it could be the likely one.

Yeah, I love Shesty's numbers in the KHL, but I really want to see him in the NHL before I get real excited.

I really like Georgie. Imagine if he had a team in front of him that played decent defense. Not the biggest guy, but he is so god damned quick

Couldn't they just sign some chump free agent, expose him and if he isn't claim just release him or send him to the minors?

There are some differences, but don't forget the Devils told Marty basically they didn't want him anymore. All do respect to Hank who is a surefire HOF, but Marty won 3 cups with them and IMO was a much bigger franchise icon. Trading a first round pick for his replacement is probably much worse than the Rangers simply buying out Hank.

Its kind of like the people who got mad about Leetch. He should have retired, but he wanted to play for a couple more years and he was really ineffective. Did it suck he didn't retire as a Ranger, sure, but the Rangers did the right thing

Yea honestly outside of this weird thing with Kreider I never got that upset when any other player left the franchise. Every player runs its course at sometime.

I would have no issue Rangers trading/buying out Hank if it was the right move for the Franchise

part of me thinks That Russian goalie of ours won't come over til Hank is gone cause he wants the number one spot...so Rangers may need to make some touch choices

There was tons of backlash to that too and by the start of the next season, it's almost like everyone forgot about it and just put on Jagr jerseys instead.

they definitely can, but that have to lose somebody in the expansion draft

with all these goalies, sacrificing one to save someone else may be the best thing
