What happened with Blackburn/Cloutier/Lundqvist just show why during our rebuild you have to keep stockpiling every position. The main core of our next winning team may not exist yet or currently be afterthoughts in out orgnazation. 2 first round picks, our hall of fame goalie was the late pick as a favor to a scout. - 2sticks1puck
As for their goalie situation, maybe Quinn should reconsider his plan of Hank and Georgiev splitting evenly the final 16 games' starts of the season, to see if Georgiev could withstand the pressure under this re-build if starting 10 to 12 of them instead of only 8, in playing the equivalent range that a #1 starter would at least receive.
The Rangers should see if Georgiev's recent previous 9 games' success will persist in having approximately a 2.50 or lower GAA along with a minimum .925 Save %. That should it continue, coupled with him progressing this off season, and hopefully having a good training camp and preseason, may give him the potential to start 40 to 50 games next season, despite Hank's great past success and his $8.5M salary. |

three Rangers have played all 66 games this season and Marc Staal is one of them
this is not necessary
it's courageous to not bow to Lundqvist but when is Marc Staal gonna get a game off - jimbro83
Not disagreeing that he could take a seat for rest, but I think Staal has had a great season relative to what he's done in the past. This is strictly on the eye test. |

Here's the exact same post with less words:
Maybe quinn should give Georgiev the bulk of the remaining games to see if he's starter quality
If he plays well, he's earned more games. |

yeah I am not even down on his play but there are loads of defensemen here, literally no reason for him to play all of the final 16 games |

a couple of weeks ago when Eric Staal tripped the Ranger and then they scored the goal, OMG
- jimbro83
As poor as they have played at times this season, I would bet that horrible reffing by far mainly against them played the deciding hand in at least 6 (if not more) of their official 20 one-goal losses of 39 total losses thus far this season.
It all began right on Opening Night in October against Nashville at MSG, when then Predator, Fiala, had accidentally struck McQuaid's face with his stick right in front of Hank's crease, causing him to bleed, and of course, without a double minor or even any penalty being called at all in that game's final 2 minutes. Then within a few seconds off the ensuing face off deep in the Rangers zone, Subban scored from the point to give the Preds a 2-1 lead. Nashville then added an empty netter, prior to the Rangers scoring thereafter in a 3-2 loss, where that empty netter played big, but not greater than the missed penalty call on Fiala with the ref standing just a few feet away looking right at the play. |

Hot take: They're playing him every game so the season takes a toll on him and he retires this offseason. |

They are both, tom, in having been on the short end of some impartial reffing which cost them a fair share of games. But they are also "a bad team" overall as reflected by their Total Shot Attempts deficit in the majority of games, when including only both their's, and the oppositions' SOG plus Blocked Shots alone in total (without even including the Shots Missed Wide by both teams). That depicts also their puck possession time deficit in the offensive zone all season long, and missing more now with the trades of Hayes in key, along with Zucc no longer being here. |

We know Geotgiev is "starter quality".
The question is if he is #1 STARTER QUALITY for 50 games minimum next season, with Hank starting to show his age despite the team's woes on both ends this season. Georgiev's approximate numbers I posted earlier for his last 9 games in GAA and Save % is what supports him to receive that chance, despite Hank being a future Hall of Famer being paid $8.5M still. |

Well, special teams has nothing to do them being dominated 5 on 5 throughout the year. |

it's really annoying that teams like detroit are good for so long and end up with top draft picks before we do. same with the damn kings. |
