A center that can play top six and a minute eating top 4 vet D that can PK are my wish list for this off season. I think trading asserts would be better then UFA overpayment, unless they could get a Panarin here and for him I’d open the check book.
I’m pretty happy with Couts and Patrick but think they need another C that is a ~2C talent in addition. G long term should be on LW and with him on the ice with either Couts or NP, and Voracek on the other line, they have 2 good lines. The 3rd line needs a playmaking C that isn’t in the system yet.
Trade some prospects or package with mid level pick for the right guy. - Marc D

Acquiring a top 6 level center is likely going to require giving up prospects, players, or picks that most won't be happy with.

Just looking around other teams rosters there aren’t many top 4 dmen I would think would be available. They are so hard to find. I don’t see a pressing need for it either and I don’t want to trade ghost when his value is low.
I’ll wait and see how this year plays out Sanheim does not appear to be in over his head playing alongside provorov - Just5
Only team of strength that could would be Nashville. Would they prefer Ghost contract certainty and move an Ellis/Ekholm? It's possible I guess.
Either of those 2 adds stability to the top 4 in the short run. |

There are no cap reasons that would prevent them from announcing a new deal for next season now. - MJL
I thought it had to do with the fact you can't sign anyone beyond what the current cap number is and they have to resign both Karlsson and Pavelski and don't have enough money to do it until the NHL announces the increase to the cap. I could be wrong. I can't see San Jose giving up all those assets just for a 1 year rental.
It is also possible they are asking Karlsson to go to July 1 then sign to save a conditional pick. Again I dont have the trade details in front of me. |

instead of signing an overpriced free agent why not start to use the asset they have in terms of picks/prospects and try to trade for some help.
they cant sign or use all the picks they have imo, its the perfect time to use them to get immediate help. - daryl stanley
Why trade assets when you can get them without trading them. First I would see if I could land a very good offensive player... Maybe 2 if you plan to move Voracek. If you dont get them, then explore the trade route. |

In my opinion the sub par play we're seeing with Provorov is a by product of really putting to much on him in conjunction with the teams overall defensive play this season, the goaltending issues, etc. I believe the pressure has gotten to him somewhat. I also believe not having a player like Filppula who took a lot of the defensive burdens is also contributed. The Flyers just aren't strong enough yet to push play enough. A veteran quality defenseman can help with that and allow the younger defenseman to play in better situations where they can use their physical abilities to attack offensively and move play. - MJL

Myers appears to be real deal. Lindblom is the real deal. Expansion draft they will lose a good player or picks and a decent player - wcorvette
think about it, from this roster alone:
Giroux (automatically protected)
Voracek
JVR
Couturier
Laughton
Patrick
Lindblom
TK
Hartman
Defense:
Ghost
Hagg
Provorov
Sanheim
Morin
Myers

I don't see the point in keeping these arguments going over multiple blogs. I see both sides I guess. But basically, if someone says they're offended by using certain words on the board, don't use them. I don't think that's completely unreasonable. - Ftown19125

Caps picked up the guy from Detroit and he’s going to play top 4 minutes. But you’re right it’s rare they move at all.
A mid six center is a bigger need. I do think they get a vet D, but it won’t be a franchise/top 1-2 guy. A number 3-4 that is reliable on the PK would be a good signing. - Marc D
Day 1 of post playoffs... Sign Quenneville. Use him to have Panarin sign. Trade for Duncan Keith and his semi-terrible contract. He is a 3-4 defenseman that is a vet, still good, knows Q's system, and maybe they take Macdonald to offset the cap for 1 year. Sign Hayes.
Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
Panarin-Patrick-Voracek
JVR-Hayes-Lindblom
Laughton-Frost-Hartman
Provorov-Ghost
Keith-Sanheim
Gudas-Myers
Hagg or Morin
Hart
Talbot
I'm sorry, that looks like a Stanley Cup contending team.

I was against moving it at the start of the season given how how bad they were. But not it's looking like it could be potentially outside the top 8 or 9, I'd use it for a quality center. |

There are a lot of quality centers in UFA. If I'm trading the pick I would like it to be for a defenseman. |

I'd pass on Keith. Honestly, their vet d man doesn't necessarily have to be a top 4. Maybe the weaker link in a 2nd pairing. I just want someone better than MacDonald. |

There's definitely multiple options with it. I honestly don't know much about the draft and how deep it is this year. |

You think Farabee signs by next season? I kind of think they re-sign Raffl. We'll see I guess. - Ftown19125
Personally I don't think either Farabee OR Allison sign.
Damn though look at that line up. LOL.... I was putting that list together and realised I didn't have JVR on it at first. Had Lazinski four line and Farabee in the JVR spot. Still pretty awesome.
With no new free agents. |

Cant re sign him. Apparently he has been a "stale" player for years now. |

I'm not going to pretend I watch a lot, or any, of Farabees games. But the highlight someone posted a few blogs ago of him going through a whole team basically got me pretty excited. I do look at his stats here and there though, and he's doing really well. Especially for being a freshman. O'Brien, not so much. |

because you dont have room for every asset. signing a free agent will require term and lots of money. a trade you get a more cost controlled player;maybe even better player or fit as well. |

The name that I keep coming back to, which has been mentioned numerous times by others on this board, is Trouba. I'm sure WPG wants to keep him, but with all the contrat extensions they have coming up, many are speculating that they're going to have to move someone. Trouba has already voiced that he would like out of playing in WPG, so I think he is a logical target.
He obviously won't come cheap. But I'd do Ghost + for him. I think Ghost skill set would fit nicely with them, and his contract could be especially appealing to them.
I know saying Ghost + is a bit of a cop out, because that plus is going to have to be pretty significant. With the cupboard relatively stocked with promising prospects, I'd strongly consider Ghost plus multiple high draft picks to get it done. |

JOB should be viewed as a long term project. Honestly, I think some of the reason Hexy is gone is because he went off the board a bit too aggressively with taking him. That's completely a gut feeling but reading the tea leaves I felt like upper management wanted to move that pick as part of a package to get a roster player. |

I’d have some interest in Trouba. I need to watch the rest of this year play out and have someone explain to me why provorov, ghost, sanheim, Myers isn’t a real nice top 4 grouping in the making. With having ghost bounce back from injury who wouldn’t get excited over this? I just hope they don’t jump the gun on ghost. |
