Please note that I don’t say this to stir up the dislike some have for this player but rather to give you a different perspective.
The reason I think Corban Knight might be a good fit for the team next year: I see him as an ideal 13th forward who can fill the 12th spot whenever it is required. He is versatile—plays center, both wings, PK and 2nd PP—can play limited minutes, help with faceoffs or play more if needed due to injuries. Key to note that he is an already developed player at age 28 in his prime. He gives 100% and is remarkably consistent. He is not slow and not a defensive liability. By all accounts, he is a team first, quality veteran lockeroom presence.
The role of the 13th and even more so the 14th forward has been a sore spot this season and probably going back further as well. I don’t think it is a spot to place developing forwards age 26 and under especially when they have a handful or less NHL game experience. How can you ask a player like that to sit potentially half a season or more? Rust? Nerves? Getting attitude about not getting a chance? Low ice time? Yo-yo of in the lineup and out of the lineup?
Do the Flyers have other choices for the extra forward role? Sure. I just don’t see them as being better than Knight. Also, I don’t want to see guys like Bailey in that role. Guys that are young enough and still have potential to improve their game by playing...whether a limited NHL role or big minutes in the AHL. Asking guys like that to sit doesn’t seem good for them or the team.

I really dont care who the extra guy is, the skill difference for a 13th fwd isnt going to be drastic. You cant expect much from a guy not good enough to make the 4th line. |

Well Knight is good enough to play the 4th line, which is part of my point. We are going to try to upgrade our forwards next season by adding a top 6 player and possibly add rookie players who are developing. By doing that, we might be able to play guys that could play the 3rd line on the 4th, giving us more depth.
I often see rookie players listed in the 13th or 14th spots of posters mock lineup. Perhaps they only mean them to be options instead of others in the top 12, not scratched. However, I also read a lot of criticism for Knight which isn’t reasonable IMO.

glad i missed the flyers game.
played my own, first of the spring/summer season, and my first in 1 year, as i've been recovering my disc/fusion surgery. i have played very well in pickup games over the last few weeks prepping. last night, first shot on goal was deflected by own dman's stick trying to block a shot when i had a clear lane to stop what would have been routine, and right into the net. i never got settled after that, and played like ass, including 2 more own goal deflections.
but we won the game. i guess that's what matters.
hockey is stupid.
go the flyers.

Good for you, man!! You’ll settle in. The longer the layoff, the more foreign everything feels. I haven’t played in 20 years due to ankle shatter, and my buddies bugged me to skate w them. I felt like a new born thoroughbred. You know the tools are still in the brain, but the body doesn’t cooperate. Now I’m trying to figure out how to get ice time without anyone around to laugh, til I get some semblance of my old self!!

If I have ever been critical of Ek in the past, let me now recant and commend him for the brilliance of this amazing projection system he is developing. Clearly it sees beyond the normal boring stats into the real heart of team potential.
Whisper: So does anyone know how it did on wildcard projections last season? |

Cbj looks like a disjointed squad right now. Not shocking with the major moves they made but they don’t have much time to play around. A lot of undisciplined play. Sure seems like they are feeling the pressure. Pittsburgh has smothered them all night. |

My one comment from the wired up episode from Stadium Series is that Ian LaPierre is still suffering from that puck to the face. How is he still a coach? |

I watched the video and I'd love to know what specifically from that video formed that opinion. There's very little there on him.

Just a quick, cursory look at his fancy stats prior to joining CBJ and they aren't great, but that could be a product of the bad teams he's been on.
Funny thing is, he's not even 30, but because he was in the league at 19, it feels like he's been around forever.
I always feel like he kills us and sure enough, he's got 8 goals in 16 games against the Flyers (13 points overall).
I don't know what to make of Duchene. |

I'm really not a fan of Duchene. Seems to me like he's one of those strictly offensive players who certainly can score and produce but I just don't feel like he's the kind of player to give that big UFA deal to. Maybe I'm off base here but that's the feeling I get. |

I don’t understand this Scott Gordon. Remember when Biron was traded here and Mason at the deadline? These guys were brought here for a reason and given along look. Talbot is more healthy than Elliott. |

whether it is him the player or circumstance he has that reputation. If the BJ's miss the playoffs does that hurt/lower his FA contract? if it does, would you be interested in signing him? |

I think I would rather pay 9-11 for Duchene then 6-8 for Hayes, if it is a center we are targeting. |

How the Blue Jackets do this season is not going to effect the market for Duchene in my opinion. What will effect the market is what other similar top free agents sign for and how many team are bidding for his services.
